With the midterms approaching, Brian From asks whether Christians can vote differently and still worship side by side. He highlights Pastor Robert Jeffress telling David French that a church member who votes their conscience in the Texas Senate race is still welcome in church on Sunday, and later pushes back on campaign-season rhetoric suggesting all faithful Christians must vote the same way. Brian discusses the arrests of author Heather Thompson Day and her husband and Beth Moore's decision to stop writing forewords. He also questions why a Georgia pastor who pleaded guilty to child cruelty was invited back to preach, on fatherhood. Along the way he confesses to misophonia, explains how Romans 8:28 is often misused, and shares a personal story about the difference between knowing about God and knowing Him. In the second hour, Brian reflects on the death of televangelist Jim Bakker as a cautionary tale about money and fame in ministry. He shares Ed Stetzer's warning against using Isaiah 6:8 in military messaging and questions the approval of a firing squad for convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. He closes with a reminder that Jesus has called every believer to continue His mission in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The idea of “the common good” has a rich history within the Christian church. It’s the notion that, as we pursue Jesus in our lives and in the lives of others, we are fulfilling God’s purposes for His creation. This pursuit can be messy. It means rolling up our sleeves and creating space for hard conversations about real issues that impact our lives. Things like parenting, marriage, finances, politics, art, and culture. On The Common Good, Brian From creates space to have these conversations, to sit with the big questions that we all have, to sometimes disagree, but to always look for the chance to create common good, by following after Jesus. Brian welcome listeners to join them in these conversations, to bring their own questions, hopes, and struggles, and to ultimately share in a journey to see God’s design for all of us fulfilled.
