Brian From starts midweek with an embarrassing story about taking a volleyball to the face while looking at his phone, and a reminder to stop living distracted. He applauds Padres closer Mason Miller for leaving the playoffs for the birth of his first child, despite criticism from fans. Brian scrolls through a week of scandal headlines on Church Leaders and calls again for putting character first. He questions SBC President Willy Rice's call for pastors to "step up" politically ahead of the midterms. He works through Tim Challies's question of how much money God isn't really concerned about, and a Charles Stanley devotional on Lazarus and God's apparent silence. In the second hour, Brian looks at Barna data showing one in four pastors plan to retire by 2030, and an Institute for Family Studies report connecting faith and marital intimacy, read through C.S. Lewis's "aim at heaven" principle. He also covers a $30 estate-sale painting that sold for $1.35 million and Fox News turning 30, urging listeners to consider how their media habits shape them. He closes with four truths to preach to ourselves in times of sorrow, drawn from Romans 8:28.

The idea of “the common good” has a rich history within the Christian church. It’s the notion that, as we pursue Jesus in our lives and in the lives of others, we are fulfilling God’s purposes for His creation. This pursuit can be messy. It means rolling up our sleeves and creating space for hard conversations about real issues that impact our lives. Things like parenting, marriage, finances, politics, art, and culture. On The Common Good, Brian From creates space to have these conversations, to sit with the big questions that we all have, to sometimes disagree, but to always look for the chance to create common good, by following after Jesus. Brian welcome listeners to join them in these conversations, to bring their own questions, hopes, and struggles, and to ultimately share in a journey to see God’s design for all of us fulfilled.
