National Wills Week runs from 14 to 18 September 2026, and participating legal practitioners across the country are offering free basic will drafting and legal advice to members of the public. A valid will ensures that your assets are distributed according to your wishes and protects your loved ones from unnecessary disputes, complications and heartache when you are no longer here to speak for yourself.

Free assistance is available through participating attorneys, Legal Aid SA offices and Master of the High Court offices countrywide. All you need to bring is your ID, a list of your assets and the details of your intended beneficiaries.

Advocate Mathibe Kanyane from the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, who is heading up National Wills Week 2026, joins the show to explain how to access the free services, why having a will matters more than most people realise and what happens to your estate if you die without one.
