Bluejay Friese - InterviewBluejay Friese is our Zone Band of the Month for February 2026!
Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, Bluejay Friese is a singer/songwriter whose music arrives like postcards — travel-worn, wistful, and straight from the heart. Rooted in folk, country, and indie textures, Bluejay’s music is defined by an honest voice and lyricism that stills rooms, earning him more than two million streams worldwide.
Whether in a lively bar, a festival stage, or an intimate songwriter’s round, his focus is connection—balancing warmth, humor, and storytelling with pin-drop moments, upbeat originals, and the occasional sing-along classic.
His love for the west coast is obvious—his live performances have brought him to stages at Victoria’s Rifflandia, Seattle’s Northwest Folklife, Duncan’s Rock of the Woods, and Surrey’s 5X. But his reach and fan base are global: his songs have featured on SiriusXM’s The Coffee House and major Spotify Editorial playlists like Renegades. His folk-lullaby arrangement of Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, which he performed for the season premiere of Netflix’s Lost in Space, became a viral success—earning 80K Shazams and appearing on soundtrack charts worldwide for four years straight.
Along with music, Bluejay works as an actor under the name Ajay Friese, with recurring appearances in Lost in Space (Netflix), Riverdale (CW), The Beanie Bubble (Apple TV), The Order (Netflix), Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (BBC America).
He’s a three-time CBC Searchlight Top 100 Finalist and two-time Vancouver Island Music Award winner, proudly supported by Martin Guitars, John Pearse Strings, Clayton Custom Picks, and Paige Capos.
