It certainly is. And we've got Stephan in the studio for the World Game half hour and I'll tell you what. Get involved because we have got well, we've got gifts for you things to hand out. We've got a sixty dollars g y G voucher and we all know the goosmes magnificent stuff that is Cali Ba Burrito, Nacho Fries, Chipotle Fries, sour cream, Jake cheese, fresh Pico de gallo and wak How good's that a line? As I welcome the great man himself, geta Stephen Mark, I'm very good. Thanks for seven in ah. Yes, I'm enjoying it myself. We've also got that City Discount tires Port Adelaide voucher to Adelaide United ticket giveaway as well, so we're going to do that. Congratulations, you will win two Grandstand tickets, all thanks to City Discount tires Port Adelaide. But to do is be involved in the show eight double two to three double. I get on the text as well and tell us what you think because Big News has dropped today, hasn't it? It is the second tier. The Football Australia unveils the new format and start date for the national second tier competition now. Was just speaking about it with ROWI and he was like, oh, that's not what I thought it was gonna be.

Yeah, well, I don't think a lot of the clubs were expecting it to be this way. It's not what they wanted from what I've been told, and I guess it's been publicized on social media and from all of their reports. Probably six months ago, three months ago when I guess the way the FA were going with it was it was going to be this format, the group's stage format, and the clubs kind of said, no, we don't want that, we want a home in away. Obviously they've sent out the expression of interest for the second round, so there was eight foundation clubs which everybody's known about, and they needed to find two to four more. I think it was out of the fourteen from the second round of expression of interest, there's been six that were I guess that financially you can do this. But now they've still gone to the Champions League style group stage format where they're going to play from October through December with the Grand Final. It's obviously it's not ideal. I do think you need to start somewhere, like, you can't go from ground zero to a home and away season if it's not financially viable, because the worst thing that could happen is it runs for two seasons and then six clubs go bankrupt.

Okay, so you think this is the Almos Slight, the introductory yes version of it.

I would prefer it's a home and away straight out, of course. I think every single fan would, But it obviously comes down to finances. And we do have a special guest who's who's on the line that's going to be speaking very soon, who could maybe give us a little bit more insight into that from Adelaide City. But I think that's the right way. They've obviously they want to grow this and as I said, it's not going to be easy to do it. We need time and I guess if we get the right metric in this first season, there'll be no reason. I'm sure whying twenty twenty six they don't open it up. But do we have Angela on the line at the moment ready to go Adelaide City Football Club president Angelo Carrazzo.

Good mate, good evening, how a jam?

Yeah your last week about well, what would you say, a different subject matter? You have the big lunch, didn't you? With the legend?

We did? We did, and and it was a fantastic event I think enjoyed by all.

Yeah, I saw some fight eys Rowie. It seems like he what would you say, gave himself an invite and he was.

Almost a front row he did. He did very well. But you know what you got to you got to put yourself out there, and obviously he decided it was It was a maneuver that worked for him, didn't it. But look, obviously that was a fantastic event and one that wasn't just about our club. It's about promoting our game and trying to get things exciting again, and that's really the motivation behind that.

Yeah, yeah, it's awesome. My invite must have been lost in the mail. But next time he comes out of I'll have to be a part of it as well. But no, I appreciate you you coming on and jumping on. Obviously, the big news with the second division was announced today. I guess for me personally, and I'm sure a lot of the listeners out there who hopefully will be calling in after this with their opinions as well. I guess we want to know how was the process for you with Football Australia. You're one of the clubs that has I guess been approved with the expression of interest yourself, Caroline Springs, Gold Coast United, Bengland, South Hobart and Sunshine Coast. But you're not actually going to be in the first the first format unless you win the NPL. So how does that actually work exactly?

Let me start by congratulating your step obviously on your career so far as a footballer and now in the media, and I just want to reference back to six when you and your mates Bruce came out and Bencho look out that can get cut for Adelaide City in Canberra. But look yeah, as a club, I guess I really should. I really want to start by saying that in our constitution our very first objective and I'll read it to promote the game of football and to promote unity and fellowship amongst its members, and also to promote fellowship between its members and the members of other clubs sporting, social and cultural. So I guess you can start to join the dots and recognize that our board motivated to start promoting the game. I think that's the most important factor. The opportunity to be participating as a national second year club came about at the very first introduction where clubs were invited to put forward their expressions of interests, and we did that at that point, but due to some pirational changes at our club, we kind of stopped and then picked it up again earlier this year. And obviously we passed the technical element that was put forth by Football Australia and their their accounting company video. Why we didn't go the next step, which was to put up a bank guarantee was we just simply went ready for twenty twenty five as a club. So we were quite comfortable that we are ambitious, that we do have the rule and the want to be participating at the national stage that we once did, no different to most of the Foundation member clubs. However, we with careful consideration and much deliberation in Football Australia along the year, you know, we just said if twenty twenty six were in but to put us you know ready now, we just we just went, you know, for a number of reasons.

Yeah, okay, well that's I guess that's interesting. So is that is that something that Football Australia have said to you that you're guaranteed for twenty six No, no.

We've said to them we would be ready and willing if they accept us. So this new format that's come out now is exactly as you put it in the introduction. It's it's a toe in the water, it's a move forward and like I said, if it's if it's positive and it's going to help promote our game, I think it's wonderful and providing it's sustainable. As you said, you don't want any anything to fall over after a year or two. We want this to be sustainable as a competition, you know. Then I think it's positive. I look at it no different to the to the Port and the Crows. Having Adelaide United in the A League and potentially our club and in the national second year running, you know, concurrently throughout the year means you know, everyone has the opportunity to watch football lives twelve months of the year in South Australia. To me again, promoting the game fantastic.

Yeah, no, I'm completely with you.

I'm someone that's obviously I am a little bit younger than yourself, so probably I didn't see a lot of the NSA stuff. It was, you know that when I first went to Heinmas back in the day, it was to see Adelaide's City or Adelaide Force. I can't even remember what. I was too young to even I didn't even look at the ticket, to be honest. But I want more clubs to be professional. I want there to be a first division, a second division. I think we need to somehow combine football in this country, obviously in South Australia especially, but in the whole of the country. And if you guys are ambitious to get back to that, I think it's only going to provide more chances for boys and hopefully in the future young girls to be professional on another level, more coaches, more people involved with the game, as you said, and overall South Australia football will benefit massively. So I appreciate you jumping on. You're at the airport, so you're obviously a busy man, and hopefully the next time we can get you on here it can be Adelaid's City have been announced into the second Division for twenty twenty six, and I hope it goes really well with you know, this next season for you guys, if you're NPL champions, you're going to be jumping into this this format anyway, which fingers crossed that's the case.

Yeah, thank you, and thanks for promoting the game and being such great advocators because, as I said, media is probably our biggest downfall as a is a brand or a cod to football.

Cheers excellent, Angelo, Thanks very much for your time, made all the best. Angelo Carosa, of course, the president of the Adelaide City Football Club not going to be in this twenty five version, not ready, and that I think that's probably a courageous decision, isn't it to not go, oh, let's just jump in because it's happening. No, we're going to make sure that we're completely got all the boxes ticked before we launch.

Yeah, no exactly. I think, like I said, the worst thing that could happen is clubs jump the gun. They want to be a part of something because they get excited and they think, oh, we want to be on the national stage again, and then twelve months time or eighteen months time, they go into bankruptcy or you know, they're juniors than suffer because actually, you know a lot of these clubs at the moment are for the juniors. It's for you know, the young boys and girls are five, six, seven, eight, nine years old. They want to go and play for this club. Maybe they've got Italian heritage, or they grew up loving the club or whatever it may be. So we want to give them a chance to play for the club. And if they're ambitious to go and play in the second division and that then actually impacts the juniors or the focus on the juniors, then it's kind of canterintuitive.

So we don't want that.

They've obviously got you know, all of the NPL clubs have got such a good following and a good participation, right, we don't want to take away from that.

We just want to be another pathway.

Yes, and you know what what a dream if you can then play for Adelaide City, you know from the under fives or under sixes all the way up to the first team, which you can currently do, but you're kind of stopping them at the NPL, which is semi professional. This is hopefully that next bridge, which I believe it will be successful. I'm always optimistic. A half class full kind of guy. There's a lot of work to do and Football Stralia are going to cop a lot of stick for this, but we would love to hear anyone out there what your opinion is on this, because obviously there's a lot of passionate people. There's probably a lot of clubs in South Australia. I know Mattress Stars were keen to.

Be in this.

They obviously haven't been accepted, so that's another interesting one.

A couple other clubs sort of put their hand up to be what would you say, assessed see whether they were okay. I think Playford might.

Have put their hand up as well, so I guess it'd be nice to know some details of those clubs. But the more professional footballers there are, the more professional teams means, the more hopefully I can jump on this show and talk about football anyway.

About exactly eight double two to three double A double A. Give us a call just by contributing, you could win a GYG voucher. Sensational stuff, of course, all with the burritos and the Friars and the Chipotle and oh geez, that sounds magnificent there and the City Discount tires Port Adelaide. You know Adelaide United ticket giveaway, which you and I will talk about that that game that I just saw our first game, so I'm keen to talk to you about that one. I was quite entertaining to say the but we'll get onto that just shortly. But one thing I did want to ask about. Are they say Adelaide's City have just said no, we're not in. What if some of these other clubs I were not ready? Do you do you think this will go ahead?

In Yeah?

I think yeah, this will definitely go ahead. You've got your your eight existing members in ipl LI regardless, Yes, yep, so avan Dale, Marconi, Preston, South Melbourne, Sydney, Olympic Sydney, I will and Gonge Wolves. They're one hundred percent in. It was these other six clubs that were later added, your Adelaide City, Caroline Springs and so on.

So we don't know who's committed out of those, I don't know.

I don't think any of those will be in this twenty twenty five format unless they win the NPL in their state. So Adelaide's City technically could still be in it if they win it. That's the only way they can I guess guarantee their entry into it. But that's true, I guess winning which is a good way to do it For twenty twenty six, I guess that's going to depend on how well this current competition goes, whatever the metrics they need to hit. If they that, I'm sure Australia will have no concerns in putting it to a full home and away. If you can get twelve to fourteen teams, I view it as in an ideal world. Next year in the A League you get one extra team, Canberra, let's say, come in who were meant to be in this year but they're a little bit slow. If they can come in, you take us to fourteen teams, and then from that, hopefully you can do promotion from the second division if their league's running well for maybe the next four years. After that you have one team each year whoever wins it, the champion of that is promoted to us. Or maybe you need to do two win so we don't have the buyers to get us to an eighteen team competition, and then you can look to promote from the NPL States into the second Division. That's the most logical way. I can't see they're being promotion and relegation anytime soon because A League clubs have paid big money for licenses. So let's wait and see.

Yeah, great call mane Okay, give us a call. Eight double two to three double A plenty of prizes on the line. This is the world game with step For more.

This is the world game with Stephen Mork. Thanks to Football Essay bringing South Australian communities together.

They certainly are Texas on zero double four eight zero eight thirteen ninety five or get on the line eight double two to three double low double low the well game with Stephan Mork. We do have somebody on the line, Stephan, we do, Brad.

How are you Stephan?

Very good?

How are you not too bad?

That's good?

What have you got for us?

I'm just wanting to throw something out there. One of our local footballers, his name is Connor O'Reilly. He was Gauler Eagles captain this year. He recently suffered a horrific injury.

He's lost his eye.

But how did you do that, Brad?

What he had to kick back on a quick cut so cutting steel up and it's basically cut back on him and horrific injury. Yeah, so one of his teammates, a guy called Brad mcgow and he's running a marathon this week to help raise fund so he's doing a bit of a charity run for him. He's leaving Semophore at seven o'clock on Sunday morning, running to Brighton and then returning and going back to Semophore, hoping to get there at about eleven o'clock. He's got to go fund me page, so it's go fundme and then search through to Connor O'Reilly. So if anybody wants to donate, they're more than welcome to. Absolutely, he's got numerous players and numerous mates running with him. I believe the Gauller first team is going to be running the last ten k's with him and the last one hundred meters is going to be Galler's under sixes, sevens, eighth and nine the Mini rus So there should be like a lot of people from Gaula, but it is great people from other clubs could join in and go for a run. Why not Sunday morning weather, It's going to be nice. If anybody can help out in any way, it would be appreciated. Like I say, there's a go fund me page, so.

Yeah, beautiful done mate.

The football community of Adelaide can get behind it. It would be much appreciate.

Wrap their arms around him. That's the way to do it, mate, that's what the clubs are about.

Yeah no, I think yeah, he explained obviously the terrible accident that's obviously happened, and if anyone's around on a Sunday morning can head down there, maybe we can look to potentially give him the ticket giveaway for an auction or just something we do that.

It's a good idea, isn't it. So we'll give him the two grand stand tickets to the next Adelaide United home game, which is November ninth, isn't it. Yes, yes it is and that's thanks to city discount to us Port Adelaide. So Brad, we'll give that to you, buddy, and you can use that in any way shape or formed to raise funds for Connor Riley obviously losing his eye. Butt Brad McGown, who's running the marathon for him. Awesome stuff, Well done there, that was lovely. Now onto your game, mate, I was I was there was watching now. I couldn't believe how well you started. I thought we could have had a couple more in the net. We were Audam and Adam and were we pressing up a little bit a bit more than normal.

Yeah, potentially, I think the way we've probably worked this whole preseason in that first half, a lot of it came out. Probably everything besides the second and third goal, which I think we deserved. We probably needed to be a little bit sharper and cleaner around the box. But you know, watching the review, you know, going back on the game, everything like I said that we worked on in preseason, it came out in that first half. We were pressing aggressive, We're keeping the ball well. Every time they won the ball, we could win it back off them straight away. We're getting our players in the right positions.

So what's happened is we've listened.

Yeah, Okay, over the pre season, we've listened to what's happening exactly, and I think sometimes it just takes a bit of time. You know, we've had probably what seventeen weeks in pre season and a lot of the same players have been playing, so you kind of start to understand what everyone is going to do, what exactly Cole wants from us and Mills and Travis with the coaches, So it's really about us now getting match fit, and we did die off in that second half.

You know, I think that was interesting where we haven't played a lot, they've played a hell of a lot because they're traveling it, you know, shang on on the like, and then they've made their way back. They finished it off better, and that's just sometimes match conditioning.

Yeah, it's it's minutes in the legs and there's nothing that can prepare you for the intensity of an A League game. So I was cramping at about you know, the seventieth minute. Kikianas was cramping. The pitch is very very heavy as well. New pitch, new pitch, so I think that will get better. But you know, the start of the season, the intensity, the adrenaline rush, the crowd. You're probably replaying or pretending visualization the game before it happens, you know, in the morning, which for a friendly game you don't do the same thing. So the nervous energy was there, adrenaline was fine. So it's it's and that's why you've got a bench, isn't it. You've got bench players to come on. But I think we'll be better for it. We're going away to Western Sydney. So I think it was a positive start besides not taking the three point.

Let's have a listening to the coach, Carl vi It.

Yes, we've had some good games leading up to Round one, friendly games and games for points. You know, the intensity as much higher. And you saw that a couple of our boys were struggling in the second half.

Now, one of those was you. I didn't think you'd be in here tonight because I thought you were going to be interractioned in hospital. I thought you'd done a hammy because you grabbed onto the left one as you're coming off, and I thought, oh, no, don't tell me he's done a hammy.

No.

Well, I didn't want to be too soft and cool for a physio because I thought I'm just cramping here. But every time I went to straighten my leg, it just went you had and what am I going to do? Sit on the ground and get a stretcher on there to go five meters only to be tougher than that. So it was just a very very slow walk from from the center of the field to the sidelines. I should have maybe rolled off, that would have been icer. But I've been doing everything possible this week, even though I did everything last week. You hate cramping, but it's part of the game. It's hopefully people do Sydney that I was working hard and next week maybe I can last ninety minutes. But yeah, big game. I guess some of the other games of the a Lea ground. Newcastle were like a surprise winners against MacArthur on Friday night who won the big Melbourne derby victory three nil up and then City got a consolation to go three one. Wellington Phoenix, who were flying beat Perth Glory and the other New Zealand side who were flying all the top of the table. They beat Sydney FC one nil and Western United and Western Sydney drew one all. So I guess the biggest games that you're probably looking at for next week, obviously being here in Adelaide, Adelaide United fans are looking at us. We're playing Saturday night against Western Sydney. But the New Zealand I think they're calling it the New Zealand Classico or maybe I've just made that up. Yeah, but the Wellington fans what I loved watching the Auckland game on the weekend. During that they had a plane fly over and it was actually showing a banner saying that New Zealand is yellow, see you next week. And they actually paid for billboards all around Auckland saying New Zealand is yellow.

We'd like.

I think it was the Batman signal and it was the Phoenix logo. So it's pretty this.

Is good, pretty good. I think it's a key week cup.

It's what the league needs. We need this rivalry and you know it's probably obviously we're in Australia here, we're in Adelaide, but I think for the league itself, we need teams to be making impact and Auckland have done that straight away. They had just forty thousand through the first two games. They've got a very very wealthy owner that's happy to put in the money. He wants to be successful, good players playing, So I'm excited. I can't wait for the Auckland trip.

When needs your Auckland trip, And because I was thinking, wouldn't it be smart to go over there, stay for a week and play both their sides?

That's I think they spoke about. We're not doing that, but I think they did speak about that. Potentially, if they can line that up, maybe you play a Sunday against the Wellington and a Friday against Auckland for certain teams, because then you just stay there.

Correct, we're not doing that.

I'm not actually too sure when we play Auckland, but hopefully it's when the gas is kind of drained a little bit.

Because they're on this they're on this high at the moment. I'll fix that fixturing for you. Don't worry. I'll get that organized. I was with the Premier pre game and he got his own strip and I don't know if you saw it. They put his He plays at Adelaide University and his number is two hundred and sixty and they put it on his back. Really, oh, I loved it. Mate, went into the Red Army and everything.

So well, I'm gonna have to jump in there next time with him and ask him for some funding down towards Adelaide United here. So he seems like a good guy.

Excellent, Hey, Steph, thanks for coming in. Made always a pleasure. The World Game with Stephan Morgan another great episode and all the best again. It's Western Sydney this Satday Night
