From the A-Leagues to the EPL, Adelaide United star Stefan Mauk brings you the latest results, news and analysis from the World Game.

This is the World Game with Stefan Mork thanks to Football Essay bringing South Australian communities together.

Add twenty seven minutes to seven. Great to have you on board all. Thanks for football let's saying it is the World Game and we are right in the middle of our Reds round table. We just had Carved and Nathan Cosmina join us in studio with Rawi and Timmy and now we have one of the stars of the side, Stephan Mork with his own show of course every Thursday night and joining is herelive.

How are you Stephan the Tugers? How are you always? Great?

Mate?

Always great?

Lots to come on tonight's show. So we're going to preview Adelaide United season to come as we have just been with the coach and CEO and we want to look ahead at the A League as a whole also because it starts this weekend, so very exciting and before we get into it, you can get involved as well. Our listeners a double two to three double DOUBLEO call in and ask questions of Stephan. See what you want to learn? What do you want to know ahead of the season. If you're a curious Reds fan or a World Game fan in general, tottin tickets to Adelaide United their first home game and next week against Central Coast Mariners, which is fantastic. All thanks to City Discount Tires, which we thank them out at Port Adelaide. You'll always get the best advice and price on tires and mechanical gear at City Discount Tires Port Adelaide. Steffan, where do you want to start, mate? Because your sign has a massive season ahead, you're right on the brink of it.

Yeah, we are.

I need to be careful what I say. I'm sure Cole and Cozy are probably listening. It probably the first time they're going to listen to this show. They haven't said anything to me since I've started, so they're probably quietly listening to not making sure I don't say anything I'm not meant to. But no, it was great to have them on obviously before so the fans can hear from you know, obviously the head coach of the club and Cozy the CEO. I think it's always important for us to get out there and speak as much as possible. It's exciting. The hype around the season is definitely here. I feel it was in the paper today in the advertis there was a big eight page spread which was amazing. Unfortunately, as they discussed previously, we do have to buy this week, which disappointing. But we do have our Fans Day this Saturday, so our last chance to get ninety minutes in, and every player can get ninety minutes in. A few players that maybe haven't had the chance to actually play a lot of games, yeah, now they get a good chance and hopefully in front of an okay crowd fans, get down there early. I think it's an eleven am kickoff. I hope I've got that one right. So ten thirty the gates open, get there nice and early, watch everyone play, unveiling the away strip which is amazing, and then interact with us afterwards, photos, autographs. I think, you know, as a player, that's the best thing that you can do is hopefully give give a young boy or girl smile on their face and want them to inspire to be the next Stephan Mark maybe or Charlie Grant.

Yeah, yeah, I love to know everything about that. That's fantastic. We heard got a little sneak peak there's a new kick coming, so wine is sort of inspired. I saw the thirty sixers have done one. I've look a Morone wine flavored looking one, which is cool. So we'll see what Adelaide United and your team pull out on the week, which is exciting. But maybe I'll ask you first up, what are you most excited about this season in terms of your squad and what this team is building.

Yeah, I think just the disappointment of last season. And again you said to say the exciting things, and I'm going to the disappointing ones. I think how poorly we did finish last year and the expectation of that squad and the expectation of Adelaide United. Being a player, being a fan is always to be in finals and we didn't manage that last season, probably for a few different reasons. But the entire vibe in the mood of the group has been really positive.

From day one to preseason.

We've tried to do everything possible to you know, to be an elite organization, whether it's you know, getting lunches, breakfast, more video sessions in individual groups. Everything we've tried to do to prepare us for the seasons to go out there and actually perform at our best. We've done coaching staff, offield staff us as players, we've all tried to do that. I think we're extremely fit. Every single preseason game and Australia Cup game, I think we were the better side and more importantly, we ran out the game better. And I know fitness isn't isn't everything, but it shows that we've done a really good preseason and we can take a lot of confidence from that going into the season and the togetherness of the group. Defensively last year we struggled. I think it's been a problem probably for the last couple of years. You know, if they score three, we've got to score four. You can only do that so many times before I guess you lose games. And this preseason we've kept a lot of clean sheets. And we conceded against melbourn Victory, only lost one Niel. I know you don't want to lose, but that was positive positive. It's only its one goal. Last year conceding two or three against Melbourne City on the weekend we won one nil, So it's probably wasn't the most exciting game sometimes is what it was last year. But we were really trying to work on that shape defensively, which we did and we know goals are going to come. We've got the players that are going to score goals. We'll create chances. It's just about now, probably that last five to ten percent making sure that clicks, which it didn't in the Australia Cup. And we can still really work on that. But that's that's what I'm most looking forward to. I know I went on a bit, but yeah, there's a lot. There's a lot to look forward to. I think, you know, where we're getting chipped, probably to be down the bottom from a lot of people outside of Adelaide, which I think happens regardless of that drive you a bit. Yeah, I think it does, to be honest, Like, I've seen a few people on X that you know, putting us spot them or second bottom, and I'm thinking, I don't know if they've been watching any of our pre season all the Australia Cup games. I think we've been really good, maybe because we didn't have the recruitments of the Douglas Costa and the wine matters, but we've never been like that. We've never had a team full of superstars. We've had a team that's worked really hard, a team that's actually always played for each other and for me, that wins more games than having a superstar. Don't get me wrong. If you could have one, why wouldn't you as well? But we don't, so we have to we have to make the absolutely right. We love your calls eight double two three double O, double O. If you got questions with Stephan about Adelaide United, a sixty dollars Goose Morning Gome is votually to give away as well tonight as our two greenstand tickets to the first home game of the season.

Let's go out to Grange.

Hi VINNI, how do you guys?

Steph?

I just want to tell you you're still telling the play and I think you make that Australian team because I think they need somebody like yourself. Second question I've got to answer to the question I did want to answer, is can you tell me who's the ins and out, who's who's left the club and who's come into the club, because I'm a bit lost.

Yeah, no, completely fair enough.

Firstly, maybe you need a job on Popper's coaching staff to put me in the squad, because that's my goal for the season is to get into that squad. They obviously had two very good results, so I appreciate your kind words, and the ins and outs. I've got them right in front of me, so it's a good question. I don't have to go through it a second time. But for the Inns, we have Dylan Pereiras from Western Sydney Wanderers, Ben Falami from Melbourne, Victory, Archie Goodwin coming across from the Jets, Jordan Elsie's returning back from India, bart Ryants who's come from Spider Rotterdam, and Max Vituli who's a goalkeeper. He'll be rivaling James Selnov and Ethan Cox for those positions. He's come from he was on loan in Denmark, but he's from Sydney FC. And the outs, which is there is a few. We do have Hiroshi Iybasuki the top goal scorer, Benny Haller and who was there for a while, Nessa Ire and Kunda the star boy, Benny Warland, Harry van Dersag, Nick Ansel, Lachlan bar and Musa Toure. So a few more outs than inns, but we do have a lot of talented younger players coming through, and.

The outs seem bigger than the inns.

But I think the overall balance of the squad this year with a lot of the younger players improving, I'm very confident going into this season.

But thank you so much for your car, Vinnie. Thank you Kinni.

You're right in the running for those tickets and the Guzmani vaucher. So just quickly, can I ask you about no Hiroshi and no Nestory. That is a powerful front half when you've got them in there. How much does it change for this year?

Yeah?

Well, I guess for me last year when I came in, I was playing as the number ten on the right hand side.

Nest was on the right wing.

So the job for me was really get into a position where I can received the ball face forward and just play the ball to Nesta and give him as much time and space so he can run at a defender and do what he does best.

And he scored.

He got me I think three or four assists and I didn't have to do too much. So it was amazing for me to play with him. We don't probably have that style of player, to be honest, no a league team has that. That's why he's gone to buy in Munich, so he you know, he's someone that you you can't just replace alike for like, but Benny Falami's come in. He's obviously a very very talented Player's been involved with the soccer as before.

Dylan Pereiras Panash as well, who's injured.

Carl I think touched on he's injured at the moment. He's been very good Austin a UBI one that's had a really good preseason. So we've got different style of players that can very do yes and they can do damage. So probably not relying on him and having Ibusuki as that real vocal point up front, you know, as a number nine. He did score or fourteen to fifteen goals last year, but the years before I think he scored under ten.

So last year was his biggest year.

But even the years when he didn't score that many, we were still making semi finals, So I don't think we were relying just on him.

It would have been great if we could have kept him, of.

Course, but he's gone to Western United, so we now just need more players to chip in for goals and assist myself, zat Klaff, the other players that are touched on, I think we all need to be aiming, you know, for that seven to ten goals and there's no reason why we can't do it. Luka Yovanimitch a young player. I think he needs to step up. He expects a lot of himself. He needs to go out now, improve it and show how good he can be. Because he's scored a lot in NPL. But this is the next step up.

Absolutely right. Your call is a double two to three double O double ow. Let's go at the heath Pool high Mark.

Hello, how are you seven?

Very good Mike, how are you well?

Thank you.

I've been a long time supporter and a member of Laide United. Now we had forty six thousand people at the Adelaide Oval the other night when we beat China. We cannot fill him Mars Stadium. We get about maximum twelve thousand, maybe thirteen thousand men come over their supporters. What is the.

Club marketing division going to do to try and through the stadium now that we've been talking about all these new facilities and TV screens, et cetera, et cetera.

Yeah, it's a good question and it's something that I think has been you know, even from back in the day when we played Western Sydney in the final at Adelaide over and we've got fifty odd thousand there, so the fans are there. I think getting in there consistently is really hard. I think what happens a lot is the stadium actually sells out. I believe quite a lot more often than what people realize. It's just that members don't rock up or season ticket holders don't come up. So a lot of the games we actually don't have many tickets available because it only holds maybe fourteen fourteen or so thousand. Maybe standing room you get up to fifteen sixteen. But I think the biggest crowd that was ever there was maybe the Asian Champions League final, and there was a lot of standing. I was sitting in a row, to be honest, of the stairs. So I don't know how many more people we can get. I think consistently we should have twelve thirteen thousand there, and the gates should be sold out, and it should be that in demand that people don't want to not come, even if they're a member.

So I get your frustration.

I think if we can sell it out consistently, then maybe the next upgrade they can build another couple stands on the ends with the goals, and then we can get twenty twenty five thousand seedar but for me as a player, you get ten thousand there and the atmosphere is rocking. So marketing team probably do need to do a little bit better or make sure I tell them tomorrow when I go into the club that Mark called in and he wasn't happy, But we appreciate you being a member and rocking up there for the games, and make sure you get all your friends to come down there as well.

Fans will get a great experience this year because they've just had the fifty million dollar upgrade on Cooper Stadium, so it'll be fantastic as we get as many people packed in for a massive season ahead. It starts next week against Central Coast Mariners. Eight double two to three double O double. I think someone's trying to Stephan directly. You have to call the five double a number if you want to get on here. That's how it works. Fifteen minutes to seven. We're going to come back very shortly talk a little bit about the Soccer rus and the A League as a whole as we build up to the season twenty twenty four to twenty five.

The World Game with Stephen mork on five double A.

Twelve minutes to seven. You can call in get involved with us. Eight double two to three double o double. Oh, we've got all things to Sydney discount tires, two tickets to this very first home game of Adelaide United is coming up next Saturday against the Mariners, and as well. If you are second best, I reckon we'll give you the sixty dollars GYG voucher. We know goods money go miss such good food. They've got the Cali burrito and nacho fries at the minute. Can tell you what's in it. This is how much I love it. Chipotle season fries, sour cream, jack cheese, fresh pico, galalo and guach mate.

That's delicious, not bad. I might be stopping there on my way on my way home. Good just straight straight there and my wife won't be happy when I get home and she said, I've made dinner for you, polished off for Cali burrito.

Eight double two three double o double Hi Robin.

Hi, how are you very good?

Good?

I'm just calling you were asking about one of your callers was asking about how they can improve the numbers attending.

Okay, just.

Parking is sorry, it is so hard this I don't know what they can do about that, just as this to the stadium.

Yeah, that's it is. I guess probably the beauty of Cooper.

Stadium is it is in the suburbs. But I guess the negatives of that is that it can become quite difficult to park. The public transport probably isn't isn't as good as getting to Adelaide Oval, but it's something that you know, I think people just have to get there a little bit early, maybe plan their trip a little bit more and and hopefully you can find some street parking. But yeah, it's it's a tough one, I think, where it's something that we're not able to just pick up coopers.

And move it.

The geography of it makes it difficult exactly, but some people love it. Like I was living in Allenby Gardens with my wife's parents when I first came back when I was in Limbo, and would I could walk there from there. So that's the other side of it is you've got so many people in those suburbs around that can actually walk there. The negative is if you're a little bit further out, you've got to drive in. It takes a little bit longer to park. But We're very lucky here in Adelaide compared to a Melbourne or a Sydney where I think you'd be taking a little bit longer. But you are right, Robin that the parking isn't ideal. You've got the entertainment center across the road. Actually that do I think it's a five dollars or ten dollar parking or they did do inflation. Maybe it's gone up, but that's what it used to be when we had to park in there sometimes or our family members. So check the Adelaide Entertainment parking out because that's really close and then obviously very cheap.

All right, So it all starts tomorrow night the A League competition with a seven o'clock kick off between the Mariners and Melbourne Victory.

Let's go through it.

You've got a bit of a dissection of each team as we go ahead.

Yeah, very very like speed dating, getting through these teams extremely quickly.

Could go on for a couple of hours.

But Auckland the new team obviously probably yeah, the most exciting thing coming into the league. And twenty thousand tickets are sold apparently for their first game at go Media Stadium against Brisbane Raw.

Probably the biggest.

Recruits that they've got coming in is Alex Paulsen, who is a bit controversial.

He was at Wellington Phoenix.

He's been signed by Bournemouth in the English Premier League, who is also owned by the same owner in Bill Foley, So it's pretty funny that they've now loaned them back to their arch Rifle, but that's it creates a little bit of hatred straight away the Wellington fans.

If they didn't now they definitely do.

Haye Auckland, Hiroki Sakai who's a Japanese international, and Jake Brimmer across from Melbourne Victory. Those are probably the three biggest ones coming in. Obviously they're backed very, very heavily, and so far it seems like they've done a really good job to get twenty thousand tickets sold in their first game I think the stadium and he holds about twenty five, so amazing stuff and really looking forward to getting over there to play against them. And next up we have Brisbane Raw who we played in pre season in Mildura a couple of weeks back. Probably their biggest recruits from the offseason are Raphael Strouyk, who's an Indonesian player with Dutch heritage, and it's funny. We've signed Win Marcha, We've signed Douglas Costa, but this guy here, who nobody has probably heard of unless you're at Indonesian. He's actually got more Instagram followers than both of them. He's got four point one million followers when our last checked. And it's probably another way that a league teams can actually look to go to get engagement because Asia is a massive market, Southeast Asia, and they love football. Indonesia's obviously got a massive population, so he scored for them the other night in a qualifier against Bahrain, So maybe there's sponsorship deals that come through that from Indonesia. It could be TV right still, so it's something I'm sure a lot of other clubs will look at. And then they've signed Wellied's Shower from Lebanon, who again is probably a stranger signing compared to previously, but I don't mind that. And then nicer Acosta who we played against and he scored an unbelievable free kick. Looked like he could be a player that maybe isn't the name, but he will put bums on seats in the way he plays, so exciting times for Brisbane Raw let's see how they can go, as you touched on its central coast against Melbourne Victory on Friday night. The champions, they're probably the ones that I'm I'm not sure how they're going to go because I think everybody wrote them off last year as well and they end up going back to back. So I don't want to write them off because we play against them first round and that's I don't want to.

I don't want to give them any incentive.

But they've got a lot of important outs joshni Is, but Max Ballard, Dan Hall, Jacob Farrel, Danyvookovitch probably their five most important players and their biggest in Trent Sainsbury is actually injured until around Christmas time from the reports coming out, so it's going.

To be interesting to see how they go.

They've played a couple of Australia obviously the Australia Cup game which they got knocked out of early, but then they had their ACL Elite games, so they're probably more match ready than other teams. But Melbourne Victory, they on the other hand, they've probably done really well in the Australia Cup. They've lost a few players, but they've recruited okay, but I think you know they're going to be looking to go one better. They'll want to get one back over the Mariners. And knowing Patrick Kuznorba, who I would say is their biggest recruitment, their coach from Melbourne City previously, he wants to hit the ground running, you know, going to a new team people that used to hate him, the Melbourn Victory fans now have to love him, or if he does pretty poorly, I'm sure they're going to hate him very quickly. He knows he needs to get results, so I'm interested to see how that game pans out. But next up we have MacArthur and Luke Bretton and Marin Yuculus who are coming in probably their two biggest names. Luke Bretton, who just debuted the other night against Japan for the soccer, who's thirty four years young, goes to show it's never too late and it's probably someone that deserved it for a long time to come. So really interesting to see how they go. Melbourne City we played on the weekend in a friendly game and we beat them one nil thanks to a beautiful header from myself. We we don't have commentary on that as we have to play it. Just go over to my Instagram and check out the video. If I haven't put it up there, I think Maddie Mace from Adelaide United has chucked it up. So it was a birthday goal as well for me, So very very happy. Melbourne City will always be always be up there, but they've probably gone for a more youthful side.

And then after.

That we have Newcastle Jets who probably haven't recruited too many big name players, very young team. Their biggest off season recruit was their ownership. Getting that completed. I think getting Jason Hoffman from a player into the office staff, I think has been a great one. They're trying to engage and connect back with the local community there in Newcastle and fingers crossed they do because we need a strong Newcastle Jets. And then we have Perth Glory who have signed local boys Josh Risen and Brandon O'Neill. Sydney FC the biggest stars who have got Douglas Costa and I would say Leo Senna to Brazilians, Douglas cost is the biggest name and I have to wrap this up very quickly with our western Sydney.

Other big signing in one matter.

First up Derby Saturday night Douglas Costa be one mata at I think it's Combak Stadium. If that's not sold out now, it's very very close to be and it's a great way to.

Start the A Leagues in round one.

Lastly we have Wellington Phoenix who have signed Rojas back to the club and Western United who have signed our men in Basuki. Those are the biggest inns there and that's all we have time on the A Leagues because we do want to touch on very briefly.

The soccer OUs very quickly. We've got about thirty seconds. But I'll tell you what. Jeseus to get a result against Japan. I was pumped with a great win here against China, albeit it we were down for a small period. They got the points which they needed but Japan, goodness me. I didn't expect this to be as competitive and then the goals came the way they did.

Oh, it was pretty crazy. I think China we were very nervous. Once we got the goal conceded. You could tell the players kind of lifted a little bit and our man Craig when stepped up when it matted and against Japan, I think four points was amazing from those two games.

That was probably above the past.

Mark Popp has showed what he can do in a short amount of time, so we're really excited for the next qualifiers and hopefully then will have more to talk about with them.

Absolutely right, So as we get to our prize winners tonight, because we are out of time, I think we have to win. Give Vinny the tickets to the game next weekend because he didn't just want to ask about the team and who's changed one, but he also said you should be in the Australian size, So he deserves the two tickets to the first Adelaide United game, all thanks to City Discount Tires at Port Adelaide and the Guzmani go Mes voucher sixty bucks. Who do you want to give it to?

Go on to Mark.

I think Mark Mirk will enjoy the Goozminey Gomes hopefully there's one on his way home from Cooper Stadium after he watches US against Central Coast.

The beautiful long time member.

Great to have him involved in the show, Stefan, great to have you in once again tonight. That's a big half hour. Well done, you can take a breath. You did a lot of talking there because you had to a lot of content. Our excellent work mate. We'll see you here next Thursday night ahead of the first home game which is exciting awesome.

Thanks guys.

All right, two minutes to seven Leith Forests coming up next. We'll see you next Thursday night.
