From the A-Leagues to the EPL, Adelaide United star Stefan Mauk brings you the latest results, news and analysis from the World Game.

This is the World Game with Stefan Moore thanks to Football Essay bringing South Australian communities together.

Yes, good evening on a different night.

It's a Wednesday edition of the World Game, as we always usually are on Thursday six point thirty.

We've gone a little early.

We'd gather around, of course, interrupting our general spot on a Thursday night, so we appreciate your flexibility tuning in with us tonight. All thanks to Cherry wee can pick your own to go four pro with Southern Cherry morph Vale from just twenty three to nine to ninety drive away. I'm Sam Tugwell. Of course we have our main man, Stephan Moore with us here. Stephan, good evening to you.

Mate, Good evening and yeah, I honestly can't believe they've kicked me off.

Together and I thought the show was bigger, but we've maybe been put in our place a little bit and gather around.

Is it is a talk of the town, so we're more than happy to accommodate it in common day early is.

It's a big week for it.

I think if we was maybe perhaps if we had the gather round of soccer we sort of brought it to Adelaide and we sort of did it different. Maybe this show would get five shows in the week. Maybe that's what happens.

That's what I think we need to be calling for. Probably the powers above it, the apl One, they need to pitch it and then we need the premiere. Peter valhenaskus to back that because I think we did mention this recently when we spoke about the Nite Round and obviously it was a last year in Sydney and bring it to Adelaide. I just it, honestly is the perfect state for stuff like this because it's so.

Easy to get around.

We have so much to offer, a lot of people haven't actually visited Adelaide, so this gives them a reason to come in.

When they come.

Here, they want to explore, they want to get around, you know, up to the Barossa, whatever it is, McLaren Vale, You've got so much to look at it. I think it's the food and Wine festival on at Norwood on Sunday if we were if we were here, I'd be heading down there, that's for sure as well. So there's so much on offering. Hopefully it's a great weekend for everyone, but we're here on Wednesday, and the only silver lining is that it's hot. It's straight off the press, and well, what's the time now, six o'clock, twelve, fourteen hours ago?

Whatever it was.

I was watching my boys the gunners, nervous as hell waking up.

I've put the arm. I slept terribly last night.

You know when you've said an alarm, Yeah, you know you've got to get up for something because you're excited.

It wasn't like a bad alarm, and.

You've got to get up for I don't know, an early morning meeting or a flight that you didn't want to catch. This was I want to watch this game. So I woke up at three thirty.

Looked at the time.

I thought, oh, hopefully I can get back to sleep for another hour because I'm wide awake.

But I did woke up, and what a game it was.

And I called it yesterday in the in the physio change room, I said a few of the boys would give me a bit of stick, and I said, listen, we'll win three nil.

And we won three nil.

And the crazy thing is two weeks ago I said Mark Marino would score a.

Hat trick, and he scored a hat trick.

So whatever I say next, mate, you are an austrodamist.

Someone's got to go and put a bet on it because I can't. But I'm telling you there's something. There's something in the waters down there in the physio room. When you speak, things come to fruition. Maybe I just need to see Adelaide United. They're going to win this weekend.

That was exactly what I was going to say. How that we have him quickly some back for those who missed at Arsenal Real Madrid a real I great sort of matchup for Champions League first leg. Let's have a quick listen to the goals.

Only three in the wall. Rice is absolutely grand.

Jacqueline Rice preached to deadlock within a fabulous freaking Rice.

It's Rice again. Goodness, incredible, this is jacclan Rice's night.

Arsenal two Rail the Dread Now, Louis Skelly, It's say it's Macomerno.

Arsenal has scored three times in seventeen minutes against Round the Dread.

They were quite extraordinary goals, weren't they all?

You have to see them, all three of them.

Yeah, Like the commentary, it's pretty good commentary. Match matched the goals, but there's nothing like actually seeing the of this. Because Declan Rice, I think he was born for about one hundred million pounds, big, big money people were.

Saying he's overpaid.

You know, you shouldn't be paying that for a number six, number eight midfielder. There's other people that really, I think, understand the game and say no. Pep guardy Olla at Manchester City he wanted him, but Arteta won out. He's worth every single penny and David moy Is, the coach at West Team at the time, said they've underpaid by about fifty million pounds. And you know what those two goals there, that's fifty million in itself.

You know, the the quality on those.

And he actually hadn't scored a free kick before this, so he's not known.

He's not known for scoring free kicks. He's technically very good. He takes corners, but there is good of kicks off from a spot. Yeah.

The first line is one night, the first one was ridiculous and he said it afterwards. Actually you can there's footage of it where the assistant coach is actually calling out, waving his arm saying cross the ball, across the ball in and he turns to the bocoosucker and he says, what should have He said, if.

You're confident, go for.

It, bends it around, bends it like Beckham And honestly, yeah, you can say, okay, keep it positioning maybe in this.

But you know what, it was world class because normally.

You set the wall up with maybe a player player and a half extra as if they can't get around, you know, because if they can bend it a little bit, that's okay. But what he did, and then the second one he said, I was just so confident. He's just gone up and hit at the same side as the keeper. And the funniest thing was listening to Bosnich, obviously as an ex keeper on stand sports, and he's saying. Craig Foster and Adam Peacock are saying, you know, you can't stop that. That's unbelievable, and you just see it was say, oh, he should have done better with that, the keeper, he should have got closer to it, and they're like, that's unsavable, because like everything savable, So I think he's got to rein it in there and just say you know what that is, and that is as good as Again, there's a picture of it as well, where it's literally it couldn't be any more in that top corner unless it hit the post and the crossbar. That's how close it was. And then the third goal to wrap it up. We could have scored a fourth.

And a fifth. And I'm going to put it on.

A record that there is no way Arsenal canceive three goals.

Oh here we go. There is no way.

We have not conceded more than two goals in a game since twenty twenty three against Luton when we won four to three. And the way we play defensively ar teda he will not allow them to score three goals. So I hope I haven't jinxtu outside of the I know, well if that's the case, I'm never saying anything.

In here again.

But in the other match obviously still of some importance, it's not as big as the Arsenal game, but into Milan a way to buy Munich a two to one win, which was a massive result. And I think it was just recently, maybe in this week or last week, buying Munich came out and said Thomas Muller is going to be leaving the club, club legend, and I think you know he didn't want to leave. I believe from the reports the club have told him it's time for him to move on.

He's been a bit of a bench player, but he's a hero there.

He scored the equalizer in the eighty fifth minute to make it one to one, and the crowd actually erupted, so I wonder if they're going to rethink letting him go. But then unfortunately, three minutes later, David the Frotesi goes up the other end and scores to make it two one to enter and that's going to be a very interesting leg back in Milan. So you've got two big results this morning, and then going on to tomorrow's games, you've got a big game PSG against Austin Villa, one that you would probably say is going to be PSGs to lose in those two legs, and then the other one Barcelona.

You would assume we'll get the job done against Dortmund.

But realistically, all I'm thinking about is I've got to get tickets to Munich, where the final is going to.

Be Arsenal v. Barcelona. I think it's on the first of June. I think the game was a little the eight.

League final could be on the thirtieth or thirty first. So if we're in it and we win, I'm flying private jet straight to Munich.

I'm getting our owner. I'm getting paid for that. I don't care. You know, we'll go and call the game live from that.

That come on deserves that. Of course, we have plenty of other happening in the in the world game. Of course, we get to the A League shortly, and a bit of local stuff for the NPL later on and show in the show as well. But staying sort of on the international frame, our Matilda's very impressive once again, a couple of wins. Good to see them get those couple of wins, and the friendlies against Korea all in the build up for the Asian Cup.

Yeah, I think the most important thing for them was winning, like they just had to.

Yeah, it's friendly games and it's against no discrediting, discrediting South Korea. But obviously in comparison to you know, playing the USA, Japan, Columbia, Brazil who have played recently like they are better. South Korea aren't bad in any sense, but I think just for the confidence levels in kind of also the pr you know of you know, the Matilda's are such a big brand.

They're the biggest sporting brand.

But as much as young girls and boys and the fans are going to support them because of it's great for women's football and women in general. With sport, people want the national team to win, keep getting good crowds. If you're not winning, it's just part and parcel of sport. Yes, it's a good story, but it's only a good story for so long if you're not winning, So we need them to be doing well when I think the players spoke about it during I'm assuming it was the week that they were here in Australia, a few interviews going around and.

Saying, you know, is it hard to be playing when you don't have a head coach?

And I think if I was in their situation, I would find it very hard because you're kind of impressing no one in that sense of well, you're playing a system that's not going to be the system. You're going to be playing a coach that doesn't really know like if he's even watching these games, whether it's an Australian, whether it's not.

So I think it's just.

It's so difficult for these players and it's something that you know, they need to sort of out quickly.

And the two names that are floating around, the one that's.

The strongest is Joe Montemuro, who's kind of a legend in the game of women's football in Australia, coaching Melbourne City to win at multiple times and then he moved overseas with Arsenal Juventus.

Now he's with Leon.

So what a career he's had. And you know, I think he's the one that they're waiting on. I believe they're waiting on. And then the name that popped up in the last couple of weeks was John Alwissi. So he is out of contract I believe with Western United in the men's A League and and they're doing pretty well.

I think I think he would be a really really good pick for that gig.

And he's someone that you know, some I think some coaches can coach, you know, from my view, can coach men if they're a boy, anywhore man. They can coach man only. But if you're too direct, you're too harsh. I think with the women's game it's different. You know, we respond differently, and there's some to be honest, there's some men's coaches that are probably outdated.

They shouldn't be in either.

And I think John actually would you know, he's such a nice guy, so respectful, he speaks really really well. Not saying Pete Montemiro wouldn't be a good choice as well, but I think from having worked with John Alwissi, it's a South Australian guy as well, so obviously we love pumping them up. But you know, he's a legend of the game in this country, so it'll be interesting to see if he does want to step into that because it's different.

You kind of when you put.

Your name into that ring, you're kind of out of the circle of men's football. So if you want another job in it, it's maybe a little bit more difficult to come back in. But to be honest, coaching the Matilda's.

That's a pretty big gig. I don't know if it gets much.

I think it's almost a bigger gig than the soccer US at this stage, and to coach your national team is the highest on them.

Tony Popovic's spoken about that. Yes, club was great.

I'm sure John has ambitions, but it means you get to stay in Australia, yep, you get to live wherever you want to live. You're kind of working a lot from home. Going out for me as the perfect gig.

Yeah, it wouldn't be quite amazing high pressure, but you get to build, try and qualify for a World Cup. That's the sort of stuff you want to be working in if you're coaching, especially in this great game. We might take a quick break though, because on the other side we've got to get really serious and I'm sorry to have to bring the mood down because it has been relatively positive for the first part, but Adelaide United need to be discussed. Of course, you're a big part of that, Stefan. So we're going to take a break on the World Game and get in some real nitty gritty around where the Reds are right now. They have really struggled. They've dropped out of the top six and one win in their last ten games. We have us teetering on the edge of possibly missing the finals. We'll do that next the World Game with Stephan Mork on five double A. Do the World Game Driving with Dixon coming up on five double A immediately after us and Cherry Pick your Own to Go four Pro from Southern Cherry morph Vale from just twenty three nine to ninety drive away. Hey, we really want to get behind our reds, so a big opportunity to do so. If you want to get two grand stand tickets to Adelaide United's next home game, you can do so right now. Call in eight double two to three double O double five all thanks to City Discount tires Port Adelaide. You'll get the best advice and price on tires and mechanical at City Discount tires Port Adelaide. All right, Stepan, I have to broach this issue. It has not been good for us in the last couple of months. You came in with your chin basically dragging on the ground. Your bottom lip has been as heavy as a weight. So two three loss to Sydney f so yet another loss. It's one win in the last team and we're now out of the top six.

Yes, I think it's the first time in a long in a long time. It was on X or something, it was one hundred and something. Base are you today? I'm okay because I think the arsenal stuff has really made me feel a better headspace. But if you spoke to me on a Sunday morning when I was walking with my wife and son.

I was just I was not even there.

I was just shaking my head constantly reliving the moments in the match and the mischances and the mistakes and just thinking, how how has our season gone so wrong? When you know, you go back eleven twelve games when we were two one up against Auckland the ninety third minute going three or four points clear to this and that's literally how And that's why we love sport, but it's also why we hate it because things change so quickly and and you know, I just think that at the end of the day, the ladder doesn't lie. You end up where you end up because of the way you've played throughout the season.

And we started like a house on fire.

The first twelve odd games were great, and then since then we've just been too inconsistent. Our last two games I think have been really good or probably great. I even think MacArthur that game there and before that we drew with Auckland for fourth. We actually the last four game we've only had I reckon in that bad run. I think we've had one poor performance against Western United where we got smashed three nil. Every other game we've actually been okay and Okay, isn't good enough. I understand that. But Sydney FC away we lost. I think it was three to one. It looks bad, but in that first half we had so many chances to score. Our expected goals scored, which is the stats for the Staticians out there, is always normally higher than the opposition.

So we should be winning these games.

It's just we're not taking our chances and we're giving up easy, soft goals. And the reality is you don't score more goals than the other team, you lose the game.

That's right.

So it fols to tell you that four of the last five games, Adelaide United kicks three or more goals every game. You think, you think you're winning those games, that's exactly right. But when you're giving up thirteen goals in the last three games, exactly so we Max Bartouli, that was a tough night for him.

Yeah, it was.

It was, you know, and it's not blaming him. Coles made the decision. He thinks, you know, he wants to give him a chance. Delianov has had plenty of chances, Cox has had a few chances. He wants to give Max Fortully the chance, and you know he deserves it.

He's done really well for the youth team. He's trained well.

But you want to come into a game and obviously you know, not make any miss that's all you're all you're thinking about. But it's the wrong way to be thinking, but it is. You know, when you're coming in for your first game, especially as a goalkeeper, you just think, I don't want to make any mistakes. Can't try and make a big save, you know, just do my job and the first goal in the second goal, I know himself he would think he could do better, but there's so much more in the lead up to that. It wasn't just his fault, of course not. And we need to be better. We aim to be better this week against Perth Away, who are obviously struggling in last place with only two wins.

So we've got a pretty good run.

If you're looking at the ladder where we play Perth away Wellington home good Friday game.

We should have a massive crowd for that.

So make sure you get those tickets if you haven't called in already, and then Brisbane away as a midweek game and then Melbourne City away. So I think we need to be winning these next three games. Obviously the full focus I'm not you know, you need to win three games, but the full focus right now is on Perth. Tactically, all we're worrying about is how they're setting up, what can we do to beat them, what we've got to do this weekend.

But you do need to look ahead and think.

Okay, how can we catch the people in front of us so we make finals. I think three wins gets you into finals. We want to win four games, that's the truth of the matter. We want to win four games, go to twelve points, which gets us the forty five potentially gives you a chance for second place. It's pretty unlike because you know Melbourne City and you need to win two of their last four to do that. Western United do only need to win one and draw one to do that. Our goal difference is so poor, so we're behind it for on equal points.

But you never know.

We need to give ourselves the best possible chance, and that's by taking maximum points and it starts this weekend. If we play the way we have in the last three or four games, we will one hundred percent win. The problem is we can't drop to the standard of Perth. And you know what, sometimes teams when they're losing, when they're down the bottom.

They have nothing to play for. Sometimes it's dangerous.

The wounded animal is a dangerous beast, right because they.

Can come out and play freely. There's no stress.

Okay, yes, they still want to play well and they're feeling low on confidence, but they'll know. I guarantee their coach will be saying, boys, this Adelaide team, they're in the same position as.

Us, that's it.

So this is the chance at home in front of everyone. It's a tough trip going to Perth, that's what he's going to be saying, and that's going to be getting their boys pretty repped up. So we need to make sure we go there with the right mentality to win, and that's all that matters.

Win the game.

If we play absolute dog, then I can't say the second word of that, but that's fine. Just get the three points and I truly believe we will, so focus on that and then we have Wellington at home for our last game of the season on Good Friday.

I'm looking forward to how this next four weeks plays out. Hopefully it's lots of good news on the horizon. Just before we go tonight we want to talk some MPL. How is that season shaping up so far?

Yeah, well, probably the match of the round which was Adelaide United involved again and it seems that we lead goals everywhere. It's not just in the first team, it's the youth team as well.

What do you do?

I don't know, it's incredible, but they drew three to three with Metro which was the top of the table clash and Cameron woodfin for Metro, popped up with a hat trick for them. He scored in I think it was the ninetieth minute to get the equalizer and the boys that Adelaide, you know boys would tuneil up an unbelievable free kick from Talladeerra so.

That was great.

The other result we've got here Croydon too nil against Parough Hills, Adelaide City and Modbury go one all but color with a bit of an upset loss and started the season really well to Bert three one Croatier Raiders beating play for Patriots and our boy Daniel Mullen has got another win on the board against Commets on one nil win, so boy, great for him.

He's got a couple of wins. I think that is in a.

Row now where I'm sure the stress and the pressure is off him a little bit. But yeah, it's it's a tight, tight season and I think you know, you look at you look at the way the ladder is from you know, first all the way down to last in twelve. You know there's there's six points and I know it's only been five games, but it's going to be a tight NPL season I think this year.

And in the men's and in.

The women's you've actually got the the Campbelltown team which got their first point of the season, and you've got West Adelaide up against the Football Essay who are the you know it's not Adelaide United, but it's Football say. In the women's the division as the top of the table clash this weekend, so massive games.

Make sure you get down to.

Local football because they are supporting this show Football Essay and they do so much for everybody that loves.

Football in this state. So get down to a game.

Obviously if you're not a massive footy fan and you're not going to gather around plenty of games to go to this weekend, but make sure you're tuning into the Reds it's a late one for us where I think it's a seven thirty kickoff, which will be nine o'clock here, I believe on Saturday nights. So maybe as you're making your way back from an NPL game at nighttime, you can tune into the Reds. And I'm not going to say I promise you will get the three points, but.

You're nostra damas you can get everything right.

I'll go into the physierium tomorrow and I'll say it's three and il this weekend and a Stephen Moore cat trick, soybody's happy.

And maybe another bust up.

On the weekend.

You got too many? Yeah, all right, it's.

Time for us to get out of here. Charlie Dixon's waiting at the studio door. He wants to get in next for driving with Dixon here on five to way. Have a great week and we'll see you next Thursday night.
