This is the World Game with Stephen Moore.

Thanks to Football Essay bringing South Australian communities together. Great to have your company tonight at twenty seven to seven, it's time to talk soccer. We love your calls of course. Eight double two to three double O double ow were brought to you tonight thanks a Football Essay and the all new Cherry to Go four Pro whitch landed at Southern Cherry in time for kickoff from twenty three to nine to ninety.

Drive away, Sam.

Tug Well here Stephen Mark the star of the show over there. Gooday, Steph.

Good to have you back after your week off. Yes, thank you for having me back.

I thought I might have been dropped after Timmy G's efforts last week.

Did he go okay?

He went okay, not as good as you, So we have to get you straight back in.

He's coming for the one week guest the appearance and now he's straight out the door.

Oh well, he won't like you car driving home.

He did a better job.

Hey, yeah, great stuff. Over the weekend we've got an exciting game against the Wanderers where the Reds won four to three. Should we get straight into that. I'm pumped about the win. We needed the to get that.

One on the road.

Yeah, early in the sea.

Obviously we drew first that we had to buy, which is disappointing. Then you have your drawer at home, which I thought we were probably good enough to win, maybe only played a good first half, but winning early in the season is probably the most important. Obviously, you want to play well, that's just standard. You always want to play well. But winning getting points on the board, it just breeds confidence within the group and you start to get that consistency. When you win, you don't feel as sore, you're more excited to go to training. Everything's better about that. So really really good away win. We looked at up well, I personally looked at the fixtures and in the first five or six games, I thought that was the hardest one away from home. The Wanderers that they are a good side. They've recruited really well, they always recruit well. So very very happy to win. Not happy to concede three goals, but on a positive note, scoring four it is always good.

So when we look at that the breakdown of the game, the goals were scored very early in the first half hour. Weren't they so a three one a half time, that's I suppose a really good tone set for the match, and then you let them trickle a few win late in the game. Was there a bit of a briefing postmatch or during the week now about how you can stay on top in the game. You didn't relinquish the lead at any point.

But no, I think, to be honest, this offseason we've really worked defensively on how to how to knock conceive three goals, to be honest and do probably what we did. So we started really well in all games. We've started well, even in pre season. Our first half's been great. And then I think we're going in at three to one, we'd really emphasize that. Okay, come on, still keep doing the same thing. We know because we're so dominant in the first half of the team's going to change things. Of course they are. They came out a bit more aggressive. They took Wan Marta off and put a striker, so they went with two traditional strikers up top, brought another midfielder on for them, so they were aggressive.

They were at home. We knew they were going to come.

But as Kyle spoke to us and he said, of course we can get better. You know, instead of playing for fifty to fifty five minutes, really well, we can play for seventy five eighty eight. The other team's always going to have moments in the game, but they were at home. They were going to come out hard against us. They needed a reaction, and they did have a reaction. But you know, once they got that goal, we then went forward to up and then the four to three was probably disappointing because it caused a little bit of a stress on the bench for Coal and all the fans. I'm sure watching back here in Adelaide, but where you know when we're doing a lot of things right, and we know if we keep doing those things well, we'll get a lot of points this season.

In terms of preference of how a game plays out, do you like the shootout? Does Carl like the shootout?

I think in previous years Cole probably would have said, yeah, I'm happy to score more goals than the opposition, But last year probably conceded too many. So I think it's a balance, isn't it. You know, if you know you're going to win. To be honest, who doesn't like more goals? It's more exciting for everyone. But a one nil win, you know, you get the same amount of points is winning four to three and the stress of that and probably being like, I'm an attacking player, so I like more goals. If you ask a goalkeeper or a defender, they're probably saying that no chance, we want a one nil win, no goals conceded, looks good for them.

Yes, So the gritty style defensive matchup, that's not for you.

You like seeing the goals.

Go No, definitely, And you know what, sometimes you could have a one nil win that's extremely exciting and it could have been five to four, but chances were missed. And there's other games where, like on the weekend, to be honest, the goalkeeper where Sydney kind of gave us a couple of goals, there wasn't that many clear cut chances. It's just every good chance turned into a goal.

I can't remember the one, which one was it. I think it was one of the later ones where Wister and Sydney's goal was just it came off the crossbar.

Yeah, it wasn't probably the best cluff lost in the midfield. Then they got a shot hit the crossbar. James Delynov I've said already. I think you know he came up with this t Rex arms and got out jumped by the striker. It was not great to concede, but it's funny to laugh because you win. If that was a four to four goal, I'm definitely not laughing about that right.

Now, absolutely right.

Well, Dylan Pierre's is going to join us later on the show, which I'm looking forward to. We'll get his breakdown. He's in the back half of the ground so we can talk. He's an interesting role this year. I've heard they're already talking about opposition. The way he's placed on the ground. Can you talk listens through his positioning?

Yeah, well, it's I guess with the ball, he's playing like a right winger. As such, he is extremely quick. I don't want to pump him up too much. Hopefully he's not listening itt or his head will get too big. But he's very quick, obviously with space to run into. I think this position suits him best. It's like a wing back, but then defensively he's expected to get back into the back four and.

Be a right back.

So it's a lot a lot of running, a lot of high speed running.

I think having Panash Mandania.

He came on in that game and we changed a little bit, but he's probably someone. If Dylan's tired at sixty seventy minutes and he needs a new player, Panash is the perfect one to come on.

But you know he's saying.

He's a right back and he's scored two goals in his equal top goal scorer.

So is that unique.

Yeah, it's a position that not many players could play, just because fitness wise, you need to have a lot in your lock.

You need to be able to run a lot distance wise.

To cover it, but you need to be quick enough to obviously get up and get back. I definitely don't have the speed to be able to play that role.

Yeah, it's a seriously, it's well fit to him. So we'll speak to him about all of that very shortly. But what I do want to do before we go to the break is look ahead because this weekend we've got an important game once again against the winless Western United. Doesn't mean it's going to be an easy feat, but we're at home, which helps us.

Yeah, definitely another big game for us at home. Western United. I think they've got a couple of draws and the loss. They played against Melbourne City on Monday nights, so we know obviously John Lewis, he's been there for quite a few years. They've changed a few little things, but they're going to be an extremely well drilled team. They'll try and press us a little bit, but I think the way we play, I think they'll drop back a little bit deeper and try and not let us create the space for myself and Zach clath.

So we need to be patient with the ball. We need to keep it moving.

The quicker the bull speed, the harder it is for opposition teams to kind of stop us. And playing at Cooper's with the new field, that first game was a little bit slow. Ye, So fingers cross train there tomorrow, fingers crossed that they've really, i guess improved. That This good weather from what I'm being told, is going to help. That a night game helps as well. So we need to make sure that we do the same things that we did in the first couple of games, and I think we'll come away with the three points.

Who are the players to watch out for at Western United?

Oh, my mate Gruccio, He's he's probably back. He's been out with a groin injury. He's a key players, obviously the captain this season, he's he's a big in if he's back starting.

I'm not sure if he's going to start.

He's not given too much away and I've been ignoring his phone calls this week as well, so him and Ibusuki obviously X Adelaide United player striker. The fans loved him this week. They're going to have to boo him and hate him, although he's the type of guy you can't hate, to be honest, he's the nicest guy in the world. But hopefully he has an off game and we need to, I guess, exploit, exploit their weaknesses and hopefully keep the ball long enough that you know they're good players don't get a chance to impact the game.

All right, A double two three, double o double five is our competition line calling now because if you'd like to head along all thanks for City Discount tires Port Adelaide. They have the best advice and price for tires and mechanical City Discount tires Port Adelaide. John Ohi, Sam Stefan, Handy Fellas. Hey, I'm going about I'm going about it shouldn't go off the price and I'm going to throw up. I think, try to get off that very well. We'll talk about the World Game, you know, like a little bit more potter than the Crows, to be honest, certainlyys in my life anyway. On who's your favorite football stace data, Stephan goes, I know Martin Tyler on the team, but and I had Simon Hill once on on a football slats on a doorback show, just see in general. Yeah, I mean I add a Parson many times. I haven't really got access to it there Channel ten, but I do love Simon Hills.

So who's your favorite caller, Stephan?

Yeah, I'll go local, I'll go Simon Hill.

I think he's a Yeah, he's a great, great advocate for the game as well, not just his commentary, but obviously everything that he does off the field as well to try and support the game. I love when he's calling games. I think he always gets the biggest one. So hopefully's I haven't checked, but hopefully he's on our game Saturday night, Channel ten, which I'm sure he will be, and hopefully he's calling my name out as I just score a goal.

That would be very nice.

He's one of the best going around Solvin. He'll very underrated, I suppose, I think because he's in Australia, but we're very lucky to have him here. Keep your calls coming in eight double two three double o double we'll take more of them after the break. Dylan Pierras joining us very shortly. Hey, guys there, are you going?

Yeah?

Good? Are you out fishing?

No, I'm not.

Okay, we've caught you at a good time. Then you're you normally are so no fishing chat tonight? Just on football.

How How are you feeling after the weekend's performance.

Yeah, obviously, you know, high spirits, especially the boys. You know, getting the win was very important, and also for myself getting those two.

Guys was was quite nice.

It doesn't happen often, so I'll take it and hopefully, you know, we can get the win this week. Yeah.

And is it is it true that you're not going to be passing to me because we made a bet that whoever scores the most goals the other person will pay dinner.

And you've purposely now not passed the ball to me in the first two games.

Yeah.

Well look, maybe maybe not more.

Yeah, I know it's it's not looking good for my bank account, so I have to do a couple of more shows.

On here too, or maybe I can wash the.

Dishes, but no, we've got Western United this weekend, obviously another one of your ex teams. You've obviously proved the point to Western Sydney. Is it another game where you think you know what I was at this club, Maybe they didn't want me.

I've got a point to prove.

Or you're just going out there and playing now for Fridlaid United and you don't really look at it that way.

Yeah.

Look, I've I played at Western for four years, left on good terms, like even with Western Sydney. A lot of people ask me the same question, and honestly, I just played for Adelaide United.

Now there's there's no bad blood.

Of course you always like to play against your old club, but I don't really think.

Of it like that.

I just want to do well for the fans and the club Adelaide United.

No, it's good to hear and and we know how much you love Adelaide already, so hopefully more performances like you did on the weekend and then we can lock you up to a ten year deal and you'll.

Never leave Adelaide. Thanks for thanks for joining in and I'll see your training tomorrow. Don't be late.

Thanks boys never thanks work.

Dylan Pierre is there joining us from Adelaide United? Of course you can call in eight double two to three double o double. Oh, you can have a chat with Steff and Morcas questions, have a comment on whatever you like. CON's at McGill, Hi Con.

Oh, hatty tellers Stefan, how are you going as sailo to my old workmate Steve Scott? You know him, don't you?

Oh?

Yes, yes I do, good man, good luck on Saturday night. Look, someone at the club has to tell Marco Monteverdi, who writes in the Advertiser that the game when it's on free to air on Channel ten or channels in Bold, he's got to put that at the bottom of his preview because last week, for example, Cage and Cornty, who haven't got paramount, didn't know that it was on Okay pick up.

I'll have to tell Marco he's from Brisbane, so he's he's not doing us any favors down here. But yeah, appreciate that and hopefully they'll they'll have it in the Advertiser this weekend.

Have any thoughts on the game coming up this Saturday?

Con well it was a good, good result last week, same again this week.

That sounds good.

Thank you.

Con We'll get out to Grange Hi Mark.

Ally, Look, I saw a game two weeks ago. Our back line has to strengthen up a bit. Sometimes we're a bit loose at the back and when we saw two or three goals in we I don't know.

We just is up that hate there.

I just want to get chapping up. Yeah, anybody coming back from injury coming back.

Well, we've got Bart Ryan's the Dutch center back that we've signed. He's unfortunately been injured for a lot of the preseason. I think he's just been included in this squad for this weekend, the extended squad, so it's up to Cole whether he thinks his match fit. And we've got Jordan Elsie who unfortunately he did his I think it was his quad just on the eve of the season. So we've got those two coming back in. But I think even with the ones that we had out there, I think we're good enough. I think on the weekend was probably a lapse of concentration for those goals.

But yeah, you are right, we need to be stronger if.

We play one hundred percent strong. We're a good site. Actually we were not bad side. Actually are really surprised, you know, yeah, boys, yeah, no.

I agree. I think we've yeah, we've improved in a lot of areas.

But yeah, you're right, we need to play for the full ninety minutes and make sure that But you know, we don't give a team a chance against us because you know, you give them a bit of momentum and the game changes very quickly. So you're right, maybe we need to get you down to training.

Excellent Workmark, will keep your calls coming through the show eight double two to three, double O double all in the running there for the sixty dollars. Gris Marni Gomez Voucher on the back of con who was just calling out whether the game's on free towaar or not this weekend. It's guaranteed Channel TEA in bold this Saturday nine if you want to watch Adelaide United, so it's on free to wear.

That is very good news.

Let's get an update from what's happening over in the UK.

Premier League updates.

What do we got?

Well, I guess the biggest disappointment of the week was was a few of the big teams dropping points. Arsenal lost away to Newcastle one nil and straight after that then Manchester City lost away to Bournemouth and the biggest winners were Liverpool who everybody probably wrote them off at the start of the year thinking new coach on a slot coming in replacing Klop It's going to take a bit of time. You saw when Wenger left Arsenal, Sir Alex Ferguson left United. It took a long time to kind of replace those guys. But Liverpool hit the ground running.

They're on fire.

And the new manager, Ruben Amarin coming into man United, which we will play a funny clip later on in the show as well for our moment of the week. But he's he's got a big task this weekend coming in from Sporting Lisbon. He's got Lester at home and the other big matches really this weekend You've got Brighton against City, Liverpool v Villa and Arsenal v Chelsea, so some really exciting games this weekend. And I think overall the quality of the league has improved, you know in the years gone by City we're getting you know, ninety to one hundred points. I don't think teams will get to that level this year, not because they've dropped in their performances. I just think the overall quality of the league, you know, besides maybe your bottom three teams.

Everyone else.

You know, they're buying players for twenty thirty forty pounds, so they're not average players and they're also getting now of the best coaches in from all around the world, so it's exciting overnight as well. With the Champions League results, there were some more I guess big clubs losing in Villa, losing away to Club Bruges, Arsenal lost to Inter City lost away to Sporting Lisbon, and that was Ruben Amram's last game, so he's beaten his direct rival now Man United coach coming in. He's done their fans a big favor by beating City for one, so it's going to be interesting to see obviously with those two competitions, the English teams.

Obviously, everybody likes to say it's the best.

League in the world, but you know the Italians are doing well with Inter beating them, Sporting Lisbon of Portuguese side matching it with the Champs, so you know there's a lot of good team quality teams out there and the new format I think is paying dividends.

Let's quickly get out to Nick. Who's Andrews farmheih?

Nick?

Hey, guys, Stephan, how are you good?

Thanks?

How are you very good? I've noticed this year, especially at the first home game. Last year, we played a lot from the back, holding the ball a lot back, going from us center back to left back to right back and holding ball a lot in the back half the back half last year. This year I see we're playing a lot more attacking. Is that because of the PSV influence and trying to play like the Dutch League? Because I feel that's where it's coming from.

Well, to be honest, I don't think so Cole Wroball be a better one to ask for that. I think Ernest has come in from PSV is obviously giving a lot of resources. I think Cole probably just looked at, you know what, what didn't work last season.

We've changed a little bit.

I think there will be times where maybe we do build up a little bit slower, but the objective of us is to score as quick as.

Possible by playing through the line.

So if we can get you know, our goalkeeper on the ball and he can play one pass into you know, Luka Yovanovitch over the top and we can score.

Great.

If it means we need to go through a center back, to go through a number six to get to know myself or cloff as a number ten to get to our winger or striker, then obviously that's what we're going to do.

It really just depends on how the team's set up.

And in both games, I think in the first half we've completely outplayed the other teams in the way we're playing, and.

Then they've changed it up in the second half.

So I know as the season goes on, teams are going to figure out, all right, well what are we doing well and to try and stop us, and we need to be brave enough and good enough to assess that on the pitch to find the alternative option to get forward. But yeah, I might have to ask Cole tomorrow morning that PSPE have influenced it or not.

That is a great question.

Nick.

Thank you for calling, and you can have the sixty dollars Goos money Gomez voucher. That is a very insightful call. Again, please gygs Cali Burrito and Nato fryes. It's Chipotle season fries sour cream, jack cheese, fish, a fresh picko de gallo and guacamole. Fantastic for the dinner drive home. Let's in the show with.

This, steppens the moment of the week.

Okay, load us up, Steph as I spoke about new manager Reuben amoron if I've pronounced his name correctly coming into Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, not the biggest, but one of the and in his last or one of his last press conferences, he had an English journalists fly over there. They've explicitly been told he's going to be speaking in Portuguese from the city. Obviously, he speaks Portuguese as his first language. He wants to respect the fans, respect the club.

So he's going to be doing it in Portuguese. And then this happens.

You could be a hero even before you get on a plane to Manchester.

Has that crossed your mind? In English?

Please?

Sorry?

I cannot speak in English now?

Why sorry?

Why they will miss me in Portuguese? So I have to speak Portucal.

They've had about twenty five minutes in Portuguese.

I know, I know, we want ten seconds in English.

We will proceed in Portuguese next week. You can hear him talking English.

Yes, more busy English. It's like a cold shoulder to all your English fan. Sorry, oh that's all awkward. That's frosty. I think you know what, He's gone gone there to get a story.

Obviously, he wants his question to be answered in English, like you said, but I think you have to respect the country you're in, and I think that's what a lot of English speaking people maybe do it as well. You know, we expect someone if we go to their country to be able to speak English, but I don't think it's reciprocated.

If we're in Portugal, then you should.

Expect him to be able to speak Portuguese in the press conference, which is speaking to his sporting Lisbon fans, one of his last press conferences.

So I think they're just looking for a story and that they press love that obviously.

Now I hope he gets a win first up and then he comes out and says something about that. But if he does lose, already they're going to be hammering him, and especially that reporter there.

Is going to have it in for him. I reckon that is really really awkward.

Well, I'm glad we could end the show with a little bit of a giggle. At least it is one minute to seven. Leath Forrest coming up after the news. Thank you so much for joining us tonight. Well done Against been always fantastic to have you in here.
