JD Vance Takes Center Stage as 2028 Speculation Builds

View descriptionShare

Jon Decker reports from Dallas, Texas, as President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance close out the Republican midterm convention with their final appeals to voters ahead of the November elections.

Vance took center stage during the convention’s closing night, delivering a high-profile keynote immediately before President Trump and urging Republicans to turn out in November. The vice president also met with delegates from several politically important states and raised $2 million at a GOP fundraiser as attention increasingly turns toward the Republican Party’s potential 2028 presidential field. Vance has not announced whether he will seek the presidency.

Decker also examines Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s absence from the Dallas convention while he was traveling in South America and the broader discussion surrounding potential Republican candidates in 2028. Other names being discussed include Rubio, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Ted Cruz.

Plus, new economic concerns are hitting prospective homebuyers. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate climbed to 6.76%, up from 6.71% the previous week, according to Freddie Mac.

And on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, President Trump and the first lady are scheduled to participate in an observance at the Pentagon before the president travels to Ireland.
