Almost three decades ago, Aboriginal man and footy great Nicky Winmar lifted up his shirt on the football field and pointed to his skin in a show of defiance against people in the crowd racially abusing him.

The abuse he copped was loud, overt and simply racist. 

Even 29 years later, we’ve seen footy players taunted and abused on the field. But when we talk about the discrimination Aboriginal people face in 2022, they say it’s not always loud and overt.
