WA’s domestic tourism market has been among the slowest in the nation to recover from the impact of COVID closures, new figures reveal.

Tourism Research Australia data released this month showed domestic visitation in WA in the month of May — both interstate and intrastate travellers — was eight per cent below pre-pandemic levels.

Domestic travel in NSW was down nine per cent in May compared to the same month in 2019, while Queensland was back on level pegging.

Every other State and Territory recorded an increase in visitors — led by the Northern Territory with a whopping 55 per cent improvement and Tasmania at 23 per cent.
