He’s a Hollywood superstar, the Marvel superhero Thor and was teen heart throb of many Aussies back in the day, but now Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth and his brothers are looking to venture into a very different field to acting - science.

They’re backing a Melbourne University research lab which is working on de-extinction.

Specifically, they’re looking to bring back the Tasmanian Tiger, also known as the Thylacine - a creature which went extinct almost 100 years ago, and has moved into myth, mystery and folklore.

The research lab has just received a $5 million boost. To explain how this could happen is the man who’s leading the Thylacine Integrated Genetic Restoration Research Lab, Professor Andrew Pask.
