So, it’s fair to say we all knew some sort of rate hike was coming - but I think a lot of us were shocked to see how much it was lifted.

Yesterday the Reserve Bank of Australia announced the single biggest increase to interest rates in two decades - a whopping 50 basis points.

A lot of economists were predicting a 0.25 to 0.4% increase.

And they’re warning more hikes are on the way. So what does this mean for us in real terms?
