Shocking images recently captured by smart freeway cameras – which are only used to monitor traffic - may force the WA Government to bring in new laws so that they can start fining drivers.

The alarming dossier of images – some of which show drivers using their phones with babies in the back of their car -- have been labelled “unacceptable” by Road Safety Minister Paul Papalia.

They were captured by recently installed smart freeway cameras which hover over the Kwinana Freeway. The cameras are not used to fine drivers currently but that could be about to change.

Texting while driving attracts a $1000 fine, while touching a phone not in a cradle will cost $500. There is not a listed penalty for driving with no hands though.
