Teal independent Kate Chaney is yet to claim victory in the seat of Curtin, despite leading her Liberal opponent by about 52-48 in the two-party preferred count.

Ms Chaney is one of the so-called teal independents, which on election night delivered a crushing blow to the Liberals in seats that were once considered safe.

She's been leading incumbent Liberal MP Celia Hammond by 3350 votes on the two-candidate preferred count, with her team “optimistic”.
