Johnny Ruffo is remarkably upbeat when he speaks about the past decade of his life, and the cards he has been dealt.

The affable larrikin Australia fell in love with on The X Factor in 2011 laughs often, even when detailing his harrowing five-year battle with brain cancer.

Ruffo’s refusal to give up hope runs through his new memoir No Finish Line, in which he recounts his rags to riches journey from the suburbs of Perth to finding fame and receiving the diagnosis no one wants to hear.

“Everything was going so well for me and then it was like a bomb just hit me,” the 34-year-old tells The West Australian.
