A man who once broke Perth Wildcats fans’ hearts in a remarkable playoff performance is set to be the NBL club’s new coach.

The Wildcats are understood to be on the cusp of confirming John Rillie as their new mentor in the wake of Scott Morrison’s shock exit last month.

Rillie spent more than a decade as an NBL sharpshooting guard, becoming the league’s scoring champion in 2003 while with the West Sydney Razorbacks.
