Anthony Albanese’s week of blunders has come at a cost with the Coalition leapfrogging Labor on primary vote in the first major national poll since the election campaign began.

Primary support for Mr Albanese’s Labor party has slipped from 38 per cent to 34 per cent, according to the latest Resolve Strategic survey.

At the same time, Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s Coalition clawed back a percentage point, improving from 34 to 35 per cent.

The poll also revealed Mr Morrison had surged ahead as preferred Prime Minister. He now holds a 38 to 30 per cent advantage over his opponent.

That compared to a lead of 37 to 36 per cent for Mr Albanese at the time of the last survey two weeks ago.
