Babies, a little girl celebrating her eighth birthday and a woman in a wheelchair were just three of the hundreds of people turned away from Perth Zoo, which hit its COVID restriction imposed 500-person capacity within an hour of opening on Saturday.

Earlier this month Australian rock band Midnight Oil lashed Premier Mark McGowan’s rules, which have put a raft of high-profile concerts at risk of cancellation including Jimmy Barnes, Hoodoo Gurus, Birds Of Tokyo and Missy Higgins.

A week later the iconic 25km ultra-marathon Port to Pub swim was cancelled due to the risk of COVID and crowd numbers.

Under the Level 2 COVID-19 restrictions, outdoor events are limited to 500 people while entertainment venues would have to operate at 50 per cent capacity.
