WA has recorded 8499 COVID cases and five deaths overnight as the State continues to track well below predicted hospitalisations.

Premier Mark McGowan said four of the deaths were historic and only reported to the Health Department on Tuesday.

There are now 259 people in hospital with the virus, including nine in intensive care.

Wednesday’s ICU rate sat at around five per cent of the number originally expected thanks to WA’s high vaccination rate.
