Treasurer Jim Chalmers has ordered the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to “intensify” its monitoring of fuel prices as the end to the excise reduction looms.

The petrol tax was slashed by half — from 44¢ a litre to 22¢ a litre — by former treasurer Josh Frydenberg in March… But the full excise is back in action from September 29. 

The Treasurer is clearly worried petrol companies might take advantage of the situation. Should we be worried too?
