Vince Catania has dropped a bombshell on the WA National Party by announcing his resignation from State politics, plunging the depleted Liberal-National Alliance into further disarray.

The North West Central MP is bringing down the curtain on his 17-year political career, telling The West Australian he wants to spend more time with his wife, Dani, and five teenage children.

Mr Catania’s shock exodus from politics, now means there will be a by-election in the seat, opening the door for Mark McGowan to increase the size of his Labor empire in WA.

Already down to six MPs in the 59-person Legislative Assembly — where government is formed — the Liberal-National Alliance can ill afford to lose another seat.
