MKP’s problems stems from the party's lack of elected leadership

View descriptionShare

The Umkhonto Wesizwe Party has denied reports claiming it expelled 18 of its Members of Parliament. The party says these members were informed on the swearing-in day, on 25 June 2024, that they were being replaced as MPs. They were advised not to participate in the swearing-in, or if they chose to attend, the party will proceed with the understanding that they would be replaced at a later stage pending parliamentary procedures. This comes after reports surfaced that the MK Party has dismissed over 20 of its MPs without explanation. The Speaker of Parliament has since issued termination letters to the affected MKP members, stating they are no longer part of Parliament.
