President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address at today’s National Women’s Day commemoration at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. The event marks 70 years since more than 20-thousand women marched against apartheid pass laws. This year’s theme, “Empowered Women, Empower Nations,” focuses on improving women’s access to quality healthcare. Women’s Month also highlights the challenges facing women and efforts to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality, while honouring leaders such as Lilian Ngoyi, whose struggles helped shape South Africa’s democratic progress.
