Action-SA announced its President, Herman Mashaba as its mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg. This was revealed at the Orlando Communal Hall in Soweto on Saturday.  Mashaba was the City's mayor between 2016 and 2019 under a DA ticket.  In his acceptance speech, Mashaba said with Johannesburg being the economic hub and if run properly, the whole country stands to benefit. Twenty Home Affairs officials have been dismissed and sixteen others suspended. This following allegations of serious maladministration by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU). The investigation, which began in April 2024, focused on recurring schemes involving document fraud, visa and work permit manipulation and facilitation networks enabling unauthorized peoples entry into South Africa. This prompted the SIU to secure a Special Tribunal order to search five Refugee Reception Offices. With the assistance of the Hawks, investigators seized laptops, desktops, cell phones, external drives and suspicious files. Home Affairs minister, Dr Leon Schriber and SIU head, Leaonard Lekgetho briefed the media in Pretoria. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, Mosa Steve Chabane and the Spokesperson for tthe Public Servants Association, Reuben Maleka
