The National Health Department has warned of a rising rate of mortality from Non-Communicable Diseases with significant increases in deaths due to cardiovascular diseases, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases. According to Stats South Africa, NCD's account for 57.8 percent of all deaths, with 60 percent occuring prematurely before the age of 70 years.  Health Department officials alarmed by deaths caused by lifestyle diseases

Twenty Home Affairs officials have been dismissed and sixteen others suspended. This following allegations of serious maladministration by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU). The investigation, which began in April 2024, focused on recurring schemes involving document fraud, visa and work permit manipulation and facilitation networks enabling unauthorized peoples entry into South Africa. This prompted the SIU to secure a Special Tribunal order to search five Refugee Reception Offices. With the assistance of the Hawks, investigators seized laptops, desktops, cell phones, external drives and suspicious files. Home Affairs minister, Dr Leon Schriber and SIU head, Leaonard Lekgetho briefed the media in Pretoria. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, Mosa Steve Chabane and the Spokesperson for tthe Public Servants Association, Reuben Maleka
