The National Health Department has warned of a rising rate of mortality from Non-Communicable Diseases with significant increases in deaths due to cardiovascular diseases, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases. According to Stats South Africa, NCD's account for 57.8 percent of all deaths, with 60 percent occuring prematurely before the age of 70 years. African countries cannot avoid being harmed by the current Gulf war. This is according to Danny Bradlow, Professor and Senior Research Fellow for the Centre for Advancement of Scholarship at the University of Pretoria. He adds that it is clear that the war initiated by Israel and the US against Iran would harm Africa in a number of ways. He says there are lessons that, if followed, can help the continent emerge from the crisis in a better place.
