Fascism did not rise in the 1930s because it was strong, but rather, because democracy was weak. We examine the carefully managed public messaging surrounding Mitch McConnell’s hospitalization, arguing that the American people deserve transparency from a man who has served at the highest levels of government for decades. The conversation explores what has — and hasn’t — been disclosed, and why the absence of clear information fuels growing public skepticism.

I argue that Graham wasn’t merely another Republican senator, but one of the central architects of Donald Trump’s consolidation of power inside the Republican Party.
