South African telecommunications companies have been given five years to deploy 5G networks across the country, as the demand for faster, more reliable connectivity continues to rise. However, the frequent power disruptions are delaying the necessary infrastructure upgrades for seamless 5G integration in South Africa. 
 
With the country having experienced its highest ever record for load shedding this year, the deadline might not be attainable which will have a knock-on effect on South Africa’s competitiveness, innovativeness, and economic growth.
