The CEO of Algoma Steel says the Carney government and the Government of Ontario were aware that the company’s business plan included a re-tooling, which would lead to layoffs. This was before the government agreed to provide Algoma with a $500 million loan guarantee to offset the impact of U.S. tariffs.
