Sainani Nkhoma was found guilty by a court on Thursday after sharing a TikTok video featuring an animated figure with President Chakwera's face superimposed, performing quirky dance moves.

The court ruled that Nkhoma's video, along with disparaging comments he posted in a community WhatsApp group, constituted an insult to the president, sparking a heated debate about the limits of satire and free speech in the country.

Malawi Man Convicted for TikTok Video Mocking President Chakwera?

Last Thursday, May 16th, marked the celebration of International Boy Child Day, dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by boys and young men globally. This observance serves as a crucial reminder of the societal, educational, and psychological pressures that boys encounter, highlighting the need for targeted support and intervention. Recent videos circulating on social media vividly illustrate the urgent need to cater to the boy child.

In South Africa, the prevalence of poverty, crime, gangsterism and substance abuse affects millions of home environments where families are trying hard to raise boys to be good men. Most striking in this country is that 70% of South African children are growing up in single-parent homes, and 4 out of 5 boys don’t have even one consistent, positive male role model in their lives. Fatherless boys, and boys growing up without any meaningful connection to caring adult males are more vulnerable to making heroes of so-called ‘alpha male’ influencers, or the local gangster bosses driving flashy cars around in their communities.
