John Ternus won’t have much time before the company begins its annual fall product rollouts. This year the lineup will include an unusually ambitious slate of devices he’s been teasing for months internally, including the first foldable iPhone and a smart display that can recognize who’s speaking and tailor content to them. Former CEO Tim Cook told employees he will miss the role of chief executive officer but has "enormous comfort" in the leadership of his replacement, John Ternus.

-Ed Ludlow, Bloomberg Tech Anchor, discusses Anthropic agreeing to a $35 billion computing deal with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia Corp. The deal is part of an effort to quickly expand Anthropic's AI capacity, and involves a Texas data center being developed by Hut 8. According to Bloomberg Intelligence: Medtronic beating estimates and raising guidance point to expanding market share in its cardiovascular franchise, which should aid the company's pivot to its robotic strategy. Medtronic raised its outlook for organic sales growth to 7.25-7.75% from 6.75-7.25%, thanks to a 88% gain in fiscal 1Q for Cardiac Ablation Solutions, which houses pulsed field ablation tech, and an increase in the low-20% range for the Micra leadless pacemaker.

-Gautam Mukunda, Lecturer at Yale School of Management and Bloomberg Opinion contributor, discusses his column: “Big Tech Is Incapable of Solving Its Own Problem.” Bill Gates published an essay saying he would slow the development of artificial intelligence if he could, and elaborated that people who understand AI are "very worried" but few are raising issues in public. A bipartisan coalition of attorneys general announced a proposed settlement with Meta Platforms Inc. that obligates the company to put restrictions on how children use its platforms, including a two-hour default daily limit and a block from midnight to 6 a.m. The tech industry's lack of self-regulation and prioritization of profit over safety has led to public opposition, with many Americans saying they don't trust AI leaders and opposing data center construction.

Anthropic PBC’s IPO is expected to raise as much as SpaceX’s record $86.2 billion debut and is casting a long shadow over companies’ US listing plans. Some firms are finding it hard to get the attention of investors with the prospect of an Anthropic IPO imminent, and companies may decide to list before or after Anthropic to avoid competition.

-Michelle Cortez, Bloomberg Senior Editor for Global Business, discusses Eli Lilly plans to buy Merida Biosciences for as much as $2.88 billion in cash to expand in autoimmune and allergic diseases. Merida is developing products that target auto-antibodies tied to diseases, including MER511, which is in early testing for Graves’ disease and thyroid eye disease. The deal is part of Lilly’s strategy to invest in technologies that can transform the treatment of diseases beyond obesity, with the company having announced more than $20 billion in deals so far in 2026.

- Matthew Palazola, Bloomberg Intelligence, Senior Analyst, P&C Insurance, discusses KKR being set to reap a $3.3 billion windfall from its deal to sell USI Insurance Services to Aon Plc for $17 billion. The transaction will generate about $2 billion of adjusted net income for the private equity giant, according to a statement. The sale is expected to generate a 3.4 times return on KKR’s balance-sheet capital invested, and will help expand Aon’s middle-market business.

-Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh warned inflation isn’t meaningfully slowing and said policymakers must be confident that it is, otherwise the central bank has “work to do.”
Warsh reiterated that policymakers will return inflation to their 2% goal, which he said is a firm and fixed target, and that financial conditions are not currently restrictive.
Warsh said interest rates are the Fed’s “predominant tool” for achieving its mandate, but stopped short of signaling he would support an interest-rate hike when Fed officials gather in September.
