Bloomberg Intelligence hosted by Scarlet Fu and John Tucker
-Lindsay Dutch, Bloomberg Intelligence Consumer Hardlines Senior Analyst, discusses earnings from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. sank the most on record after the Foot Locker chain it acquired last year continued to struggle, raising doubts about the broader sneaker market. The company now expects net sales to be in a range of $21.9 billion to $22.2 billion in the current fiscal year, down from its previous forecast, driven by a drop in sales at Foot Locker.
-Sid Philip, Bloomberg Chief Correspondent for Global Aviation, discusses United Airlines expanding its long-haul network. United Airlines Holdings Inc. will add destinations in Europe and Asia to its network next year, using Airbus SE's new long-range narrow-body planes. The carrier will fly the A321XLR planes from its Newark hub to locations including Luxembourg and Marseille, and from San Francisco to Okinawa, Japan.
-Erin Hudson, Bloomberg Municipal Bond Reporter, discusses how private schools in the US are increasing financial aid and advertising discounts to attract students, as soaring tuition and a declining population of school-age children intensify competition. Some schools, such as Brearley and Deerfield Academy, are offering free tuition to families earning under certain income thresholds, and using sliding scales to determine tuition for higher-earning families.
-Bailey Lipschultz, Bloomberg News Senior Equities Reporter, discusses IPOs. Fresh signs of European stock exchanges losing out to the US in attracting key IPOs have emerged this week, despite bourses and governments intensifying their efforts to win and retain listings. More money has been raised in the US so far this year in IPOs by sizeable European companies than on their home exchanges, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
