American Express Co. said second-quarter expenses surged 12% as it spent more on marketing to attract and retain premium cardholders. Chief Financial Officer Christophe Le Caillec anticipates marketing expenses to be up around 10% in the second half of 2026 from the same period a year earlier.

-Kunjan Sobhani, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Semiconductor Analyst, discusses Intel earnings. Intel Corp.'s quarterly report beat Wall Street estimates, but a major question remains about when the company will secure outside customers for its factories. -Kevin Tynan, Director of Research at The Presidio Group, recaps Tesla earnings. Tesla  shares tumbled after disappointing quarterly results raised questions about Elon Musk’s plan to refocus the electric vehicle maker on artificial intelligence and robots. Profit fell short of Wall Street’s estimates for the period as spending on ambitious initiatives surged to $5.8 billion, resulting in Tesla’s first cash burn in two years.

-Mandeep Singh, Global Head of Tech Research for Bloomberg Intelligence, recaps Alphabet earnings. Alphabet raised its capital spending forecast to a range of $195 billion to $205 billion this year, up from a previous forecast of $190 billion.  The company's quarterly cash flow was negative for the first time since going public, with negative free cash flow of $5.9 billion in the period, and its cloud revenue totaled $24.77 billion, up 82% from a year earlier.

-Geetha Ranganathan, Bloomberg Intelligence Analyst on US Media, discusses Comcast earnings. Comcast reported ongoing losses of cable-TV and broadband customers as it prepares to spin out its film and TV business. The company's media division was the clear bright spot in the second quarter, providing a plethora of must-see events that helped boost revenue by 25%.

-Madison Muller, Bloomberg News Health Reporter, discusses Eli Lilly’s obesity shot clearing another hurdle. Eli Lilly & Co.'s next-generation weight-loss shot retatrutide didn't increase overall heart risk in a new study, helping dispel concerns over its potential. The company plans to file for US Food and Drug Administration approval early next year, later than investors hoped, due to the complexity of the approval pathway.

- Kelcee Griffis, Bloomberg Telecom Reporter, discusses AT&T earnings. AT&T added 432,000 monthly wireless phone subscribers in the second quarter, better than the 325,264 that Wall Street had projected. The company reported revenue of $31.6 billion, up 2.3% from a year ago, and adjusted earnings per share of 65 cents, surpassing expectations of 59 cents.

- Woo Jin Ho, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Hardware and Networking Analyst, discusses Super Micro Computer. Super Micro Computer shares rose as much as 25% after the server maker issued preliminary results saying its backlog hit a record on new orders in the quarter of more than $60 billion.

- Ken Shea, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Consumer Products Analyst, discusses earnings from Philip Morris. Philip Morris International shares hit a record after reporting a boost in demand for its smoke-free products. Shipments of smoke-free products rose in the second quarter, mainly driven by its IQOS heated tobacco devices, and net revenue rose on an organic basis.

- Gautam Mukunda, Lecturer at Yale School of Management and Bloomberg Opinion contributor, discusses his Opinion column: “Regulate AI like We Do the Airline Industry.” The heads of America's leading artificial intelligence companies agree that the AI frontier needs regulation due to the potential risks from biological weapons. The release of Kimi K3, an open-weight model by a Chinese company, highlights the need for regulation, as advanced AI capability is becoming widely available.
