We speak now to Youth Capital about a very important issue they have been following on the status of thousands of teaching assistants across the country. The organization wrote to the Acting Director General of the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) and the Commissioner of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on the disbursement of funding to the Basic Education Employment Initiative.
The organization is calling for the release of the funds as a provision of the 2024 Budget Speech where Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the extension of R7.4 billion for the Presidential Employment Initiative in the medium-term. Later in March, it was communicated with Youth Capital that the funds for the PES would come from the UIF.’ It’s now the end of August and details haven’t been shared.
