Back in 2015, 17 goals were adopted to advance a blueprint of shared outcomes for a peaceful and prosperous society. The Sustainable Development Goals were a call to action to address the inequalities facing the world including equitable access to health, education, climate change, jobs, infrastructure and basic services. Some human rights activists argue that despite the adoption of these goals 9 years ago, there has been systemic failure to implement these goals by member states that has left up to 4 billion people struggling without access to critical services. Furthermore, the research organizations such as the World Benchmarking Alliance have measured the compliance of 2000 companies and found that 90% of the world’s most influential brands are not meeting human rights standards in as far as fair labour practices, wages & ethical conduct.
