Former President Nelson Mandela singed it into law on the 10th of December1996. Researchers at the University of Pretoria are developing a groundbreaking handheld device that could transform how TB is detected and screened. It’s called MARTI — a compact device that fits in the palm of your hand and requires just a single drop of blood. No sputum samples, no needles, and no lab delays. Early validation trials show that MARTI is coming close to the targets set by the World Health Organization for what an ideal TB test should look like — fast, reliable, and accessible.
