South Africa returns from the AU Summit

We speak now to the Department of International Relations about South Africa’s election to the African Union’s Peace and Security Council. At the 38th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Pretoria was elected alongside the Kingdom of Lesotho to represent the Southern Region on the two available seats. Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Ronald Lamola, who was leading the South African delegation, has stated that, in order to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063 that the African people want, more effort is needed in terms of peacemaking and peacebuilding on the continent. The continent continues to grapple with various issues, including terrorism and violent extremism, which have resulted in the killing and maiming of thousands of innocent civilians.
