Social Development’s plan to deal with unemployed social workers

Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe stressed the need for the employment of more social workers to deal with the social ills faced by the country. She was addressing her department’s two-day workshop under the theme: ‘enhancing collaboration with the private and business sectors’ where she also spoke about implementing the newly approved government strategy of employing social service professionals. Furthermore she pointed out that according to the National Development Plan, the country needs 55,000 professionals by 2030. Currently government has 23,561 social workers under its employment.
