In recent weeks, telecommunications providers have been affected by generator theft at major cellphone towers around the country. The targeted items Telecommunications giants have reported several hits at their towers by syndicates since the start of 2023 and lose millions of rands due to the vandalism & theft. In these coordinated hits, syndicates target generators, batteries, copper and diesel at base plants. Many of the stolen generators are sold in the black market or resold on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace.

The impact of generator theft is not only felt by service providers but also by ordinary citizens trying to connect with their loved ones.
