Professor Thabo Ditsele penned an interesting article pointing out that a people can practice their culture without necessarily speaking their native language. He sights many examples of how the different groups have seen their languages evolve into a dialect only they would understand. Afrikaans is a classic example of how it transformed from Dutch to what it is today.
