This week, public health stakeholders across the country are encouraging ordinary South Africans to choose healthier food options and live a more active lifestyle. The government has partnered with various public health organizations to emphasize the importance of educating the public on nutrition and safe food handling in an effort to combat malnutrition as well as illnesses.
One of the key concerns around building a healthier lifestyle is cost. Another concern is whether households are food secure and the accessibility of food that is safe enough to consume.
This year's edition has been overshadowed by several incidents of food poisoning have occurred among young people and children which have resulted in death. How can we make nutritious food available in our homes, workplaces, schools? How can we help South Africans from all walks of life enjoy a healthier lifestyle?
