Municipal Watch: What will it take to for the president and the GNU to resurrect dying municipalities?

According to Lightstone's latest Residential Property Index, national year-on-year house price inflation remains steady at 2.2%. At a provincial level, the Western Cape inflation significantly outperformed Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal. In terms of property segments, annual inflation for High-Value properties has risen to 2.3%. Meanwhile, the Low-Value properties (under R300 000) remained steady at 8.7%. Mid-Value properties (under R1,2 million) remained steady at 2.1%, and Luxury properties (over R5 million) remained steady at 2.2%. We turn our focus on the Rand West Local Municipality which governs Randfontein, Westonaria, Mohlakeng, Bekkersdal, Venterspos and Finsbury. They have been battling water, electricity and Zama Zama issues in the mining area that falls under them. Floods are a big challenge as they've destroyed infrastructure leading to sewage spillage in some of the surrounding townships. There was also an incident earlier this year where a two-year-old child died in a manhole incident.
