The Lichtenburg-based Ditsobotla Local Municipality reportedly does not have money to pay their staff. An internal memorandum seen by the SABC News indicates that workers will not receive May salaries. The letter was also shared to us as the Talking Point by one of the listeners. The municipality does not indicate when the salaries will be paid and what the reason for non-payment is. This is one of the many challenges faced by this municipality -- whose council got dissolved last year. Following December by-elections, there's still no stability in the municipality. We did try for the municipality, but the spokesperson refused saying to my producer that they don’t have answers. We then tried for the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs in the North West. They promised to come back to us, but still no word from them. So we have invited the unions as it is their members who are directly affected by this.
