Last week we received a call from Javu Mthombeni who is a resident of Mukhomi village in Malumulele in the province of Limpopo. He was telling us about a road project taking place in his area without any of them knowing about it. The residents are suspicious because they say that the road is only along the mayor’s house and his second wife.

Academics take on the state and quality of matric in SA

As we enter2026 which is an election year for local government, political parties are gearing up to woo voters. However it's not going to be an easy road for them as they are still facing a huge problem of voter apathy. Just this past weekend, President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged that communities are disgruntled over issues of service delivery and vowed to take action. The IEC has already raised concerns at the continued in voter participation. False promises from politicians are not helping either. Based on the actions of political parties, is the electorate justified in not participating in local government electoral processes? What responsibility do political parties have beyond constituencies to rebuild trust and deliver on services?

Our next guest hails from the streets of Soweto. They grew up together and formed their group back in the early 1990s. After completing their studies in music college, they worked on their debut album which would change their lives forever: Sigiya Ngengoma (1995). Since then, they have been the pioneers of a genre that would become a quintessential part of South African music: Kwaito. Since then, they have shaped South African culture through Pantsula.
