Mozambican Elections: Postmortem and atmosphere

For more than a year, the producers of this show have been trying to get the Ngaka Modiri Molema municipality on the show to talk about service delivery issues. Sadly the mayor, Khumalo Molefe has never been available for different reasons. Even today he is again not available to take part. The producers then asked when he can be available, but no response from the communication team. So this morning we thought to give you the residents under that municipality the opportunity to tell us what life is like when it comes to service delivery. Let’s first listen to this report that was done by our reporter,Itumeleng Kgajane and video journalist Tumelo Setlhabetsi there weeks ago. It was about residents of Danville township and neighboring villages in Mahikeng in the North West saying they have had enough. They have lodged complaints regarding a canal passing on the edge of the township.

Today, we turn our attention to an issue that affects all South Africans, the cleanliness of our cities. Our cities, once beacons of hope and culture, are increasingly becoming overwhelmed with waste and disarray. Despite ongoing efforts from municipalities, many citizens feel disillusioned, believing that their surroundings are beyond help. But it doesn’t have to be that way. What then is our role as citizens and what should we do to help keep our cities clean?

Tomorrow (Thursday) marks World Mental Health Day and we thought to turn our focus on the impact of home security on our mental health. Our homes are supposed to be our comfort zones and places of safety, but if you look around and see how walls are getting higher and higher and also more burglar-proof gates are being installed to increase our safety. But then what does all of this do for our mental health? Do we worry too much about what can happen and also the fear of criminals breaking in? What is all of this doing for our mental health?
