Illicit Trade and the impact on business as well as consumers

View descriptionShare

Illicit trade in South Africa presents a significant risk to
consumers: primarily through the proliferation of counterfeit
goods like food, drinks, pharmaceuticals, and cigarettes. These
goods can pose health risk to consumers. This form of trade also
damages the economy by costing the government tax revenue
and hindering the growth of legitimate businesses. It costs South
Africa R100 billion per annum, according to SARS.
This week, our next guests has held a Crime Risk Seminar where
experts unpacked retail crime threats, evaluating current
strategies, and developing collaborative mitigation solutions to
produce tangible outcomes that will benefit all stakeholders and
the economy of the country. Business crime is a concern for the
consumer goods sector. This includes cash-in-transit, shoplifting
and jewellery store robberies, etc. To tell us more about the
recommendations that emerged from the seminar and the
stakeholders who attended, we are joined by…
Guest: Zinhle Tyikwe - Chief Executive Officer at the
Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA)

Guest: Abbie Nelson - Executive: Consumer Goods Crime Risk Initiative at the Consumer Goods Council of South
Africa (CGCSA)
