Focus: According to medical journals, tuberculosis (TB) is a respiratory disease whereby infectious bacteria attacks the lungs at first and spreads further to other parts of the body. South Africa has the eight highest prevalence rate of tuberculosis in the world and forms part of the 95% disease burden, globally. While local experts acknowledge that more funding is being allocated to TB-related facilities and resources, the high mortality rate that’s linked co-infection to HIV/AIDS still creates challenges such as social stigma and patients not completing their medication for recovery.
