Last week President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled King Shaka’s statue at KwaZulu-Natal’s King Shaka International Airport. He said that the AmaZulu King’s legacy of a statesman and unifier is still relevant for present-day South Africa. The 11 metre high statue took 14 years in the making, as the initial aim was to have a statue honouring King Shaka at the airport during the 2010 soccer World Cup. Interestingly, we received a voice note from one of our listeners asking about the true history of King Shaka and whether the Zulu nation was named by him or came after his death? They are made-up of 36 NGOs and collectively care for over 70,000 children throughout the country where they provide critical support in areas such as education, healthcare, nutrition, and community development. MAMAS Alliance – SHARE Conference

Over the weekend Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi said that the Gauteng government has decided to ban the sale of Terbufos, a pesticide which was found to have caused the recent deaths of six Soweto children. He goes on to say that only licensed businesses will be able to sell the pesticide also known as "halepherimi". Lesufi was speaking following a meeting with MECs, Mayors and MMCs on implementing By-Laws and regulations for spaza shop operations in the province. The meeting comes amidst the spike in food-borne illnesses which have since claimed the lives of 23 children in the province, with 441 cases reported. Lesufi says traders must abide by prescribed regulation. Let’s take a listen….
