Our next guest hails from and began her musical journey at the tender age of 12 when she started taking classical lessons in the piano. This journey has taken her to stages in Europe and the United States of America not only as a performer but an educator as well. She has
been invited as an artist in residence at the University of Southern California’s Thornton
School of Music and is part of UCT Next Generation
Professoriate programme. Her research interests lie in the intersection where the art of music meets the world of business as well as the repositioning of South African Jazz in the academy.
In September 2024, she released her much-anticipated third studio album:Ndilapha. This is her first album recorded independently and recorded over a two year period. This album has been described as “the manifestation of presence through song” and explores themes of loss, rebirth, motherhood, and the essence of black womanhood. This morning, she joins us to share her upcoming concert in August and tells us more about her creative process in making Ndilapha, performing at festivals and balancing her academic commitments.
